LCD Display is Black

Hi, When the camera is turned on, the LCD diaplay screen is blank (dark) and just displays various information icons for megapixels, quality, flash-on, etc. When I try to take pictures, the same is not possible as LCD screen does not display anything. However, it does click and take pictures - which are nothing but black squares, nothing shows on screen except on the date& time it was taken.etc. However, the LCD screen works fine when used in preview mode for the pictures taken before the problem started. black. The flash is still working.Any suggestion?

The image in the LCD monitor will darken in strong sunlight or bright light. This is normal occurrrence in device CCDs and does not contitute a malfunction. This image will not be recoded when shooting still photos, but it will be recorded wihen shooting movies.Read you owner manual and adjust the MENU, according with your o. manual.Otherwise you must go the repair shop
God bless you

Canon's web site says:
Service Notice: CCD Image Sensor Advisory (Updated 10/31/2006)
spacer.gif
camera_red_hline.gif
This Service Notice will update Canon U.S.A., Inc.'s previous CCD Image Sensor Advisory, dated October 6, 2005.
It has come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensor used in certain Canon digital cameras and digital video camcorders may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.
Notice of Additional Affected Products:
As a result of our continuing investigation of this malfunction, we have determined that the 11 models listed below, in addition to the 16 models listed in our Service Notice concerning this malfunction, dated October 6, 2005, may be affected.
Affected products:
- Camcorders: ZR60, ZR65 MC, ZR70 MC, ZR80, ZR85, ZR90, ELURA 40 MC, ELURA 50
- Digital Cameras A60, A70, A75, A300, A310, S230, SD100, SD110, A40(*), A80(*), A85(*), A95(*), S1 IS(*), S60(*), S200(*), S330(*), S400(*), S410(*), S500(*)
*Models added as of Oct.31, 2006
Malfunction:
It has been confirmed that the connecting parts of the internal wiring of the CCD used in affected products may become disconnected, especially if the affected products are stored or used in high-temperature and high-humidity environments. If this occurs, the signal is not output from the CCD normally in Shooting Mode, which may cause a distorted image or the absence of an image. This malfunction can be confirmed on the LCD monitor screen during shooting. The same malfunction also appears on the recorded image.
Canon's Response:
Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, the products listed above exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if Canon determines that the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.

My picture screen won't come on, canon 60d

The camera can display various different levels of information on the rear LCD screen and you can use the "Info" button to cycle through all the various options that the camera can display (I think it's roughly 4 different options and you just keep pressing info and it cycles through all the options ... looping back to the first option when you get to the end.)
One of those options... is to display nothing at all. The screen will stay dark. But it should always come to life if you press the "menu" button (assuming the camera is actually on and not tethered to a computer). When I do astrophotography in a group, I don't want the light from my camera screen on... so I set it to the mode that turns off the display.
Tap "info" and see if the LCD switches on (and just tap it several more times until it displays what you want.)
It does something similar if you are reviewing an image. Normally it fills the frame with the image but you can press info several times and see the combined RGBL histogram, or you can display the histogram for each color channel independently, etc.
If the display does not work EVEN if you press the "menu" button, then something else is wrong.

Hi, When the camera is turned on, the LCD diaplay screen is blank (dark) and just displays various information icons for batterly level, megapixels, quality, flash-on, etc. When I try to take pictures, the...

The display being blank can be due to failure of the LCD or the CCD which is the optical sensor of the camera. So to confirm check the older picture to be seen on the display. Confirm this by checking the card on your PC. If the images/picture is seen to be of good quality, then the LCD can be faulty, fault on the linking cable or the control board.since you are able to seen the ICONS the LCD is good , Now if the picture taken are seen well the CCD is also OK and the fault seems to be a digital logic gate failure as there is no switching of the circuit .

This might require a probe and it might be a relative issue in the motherboard circuit or the processsor. Remove battery , press down all buttons to drain off voltage and see if the camera resets.

Thank You for using fixya

Ah yes! you have pressed the display button. Turn the camera on and you see the icons in the display, look for the Disp button and press it, the display will cycle through its modes icons, black, image and icons.

Brand-new Canon Powershot SX120 IS and have put in the batteries and card included in the pack. All seems to be working normally - EXCEPT the screen is continually dark and not showing anything the camera...

I am not sure if this advice will work for your model, but it does work for other Canon models.

There is a DISP button on the back. When you push it in, it will turn off the LCD display. Hit it again, and it will keep the display off but show the on-screen icons. Push it again, and the LCD will turn back on. I may be wrong about the order it cycles, but it will cycle through the various modes.

Good luck.

The view screen is black and you can't see what you're taking the pic. Battery is ok

If camera shows Menu item or any on-screen display in LCD but no live view to take picture then it can be either aperture problem or defective ccd imager.
And if you do not see any display icon in LCD then of course LCD section is bad or LCD back light is Off for some reason. Try to see faint image in LCD if it is totally blank by pointing good amount of light with flash light or some thing.

I would like to remove the icons on the back screen of my camera. I don't want them to come back on when I turn the camera back on.

If you are talking about the icons on the LCD when it is on, the menus will have a choice for a clear screen view.
On the back there should be a button for the display such as disp or the options will be in one of the menus. On this camera there is a display or screen button which will give different options of which one option will turn off or on the various icons to be viewed.
If you do not have a user's manual, you can download a pdf file here:
Sony DSC-W100
This file will give all the information need to work this camera.

LCD Display Blank

I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback as well.

I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito, Ecuador)

Blank LCD screen on shooting mode, but does show settings. Will not take pictures. Replaying mode works, shows pictures taken before screen went blank. New batteries. What is going on??? Is it...

The Display button manually turns the LCD display on or off to save batteries. If you accidentally had turned the LCD off, It should only take one press of the button to turn it back on and leave it that way. As such, it's not you but the camera. The A570 IS is relatively new. Your camera is likely still under warranty. If so, contact Canon for warranty repair (see the following link):
