My 4 gb sansa is malfunctioning every time i turn it on, theres this white screen with soem green leaf-shaped things that come up the scrol button works, it lights up blue, but I cant do anything else

That's the icon for "macro" or close-up photos. There should be a button with a picture of the leaf or a mountain on the back of the camera. You didn't say what model camera you have.

Try add new hardware wizard.
Once it does not find it.
Tell the new hardware wizard to search for MTP device.

Adjust the volume while playing by "turning" the thumbwheel. Go clockwise to increase, counterclockwise to decrease.

Offhand, the message indicates that the Sansa is requesting that the internal storage be reformatted using the PC. This would require that the Fuze be connected to the PC through USB. Thereafter, the computer would recognize it as an external storage device. Steps required to format:

• connect Sansa Fuse to USB of PC;
• double click on "My Computer";
• it would show probable as an "E";
• right click on the "E" and click on "Format...";
• a new window will pop up;
• under the "File system" pls select FAT or FAT 32;
• verify that "Quick Format" is un-checked;
• click on Start button.

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

you have to hold down the power button for 13 whole seconds. I have had the same thing happen to mine and I dont know if there is a permanent way of fixing it but that should turn it off so you can turn it on again.

yes your screen is cracked on the inside if you just bought it you should return it immediatly

After calling SanDisk Tech Support, I was told this indicates a corrupted file. To fix the player do the following: (NOTE!!! This will put you into recovery mode and reformat your player and erase EVERYTHING from the player! You will have to reload everything once it's fixed!)
1. Make sure the player is off. If you are in the loop with the SanDisk screen/white screen, press and hold your power button (bottom left corner of player) and hold it until it turns off...may be 30 seconds or so. Lock the player by sliding the button on the top of the player toward the headphone jack so you see yellow/orange to the left of the tab/button.
2. Press and hold the record button on the left side of the player WHILE pressing the power button to turn it on. You should now enter recovery mode. Watch the screen and it'll ask you to plug the USB cable in. A box should pop up on your computer screen (does in Windows XP) that's called "16MB Format." If it doesn't pop up, go into "my computer" and look for this. Double click on it to open it up.
3. With the 16MB Format screen/box opened, put your cursor on a blank part of that screen inside the box and right click to create a new folder. Select "new" and create a new folder and name the folder "sansa.fmt"
4. Close the 16MB Format box
5. Unplug your player and watch the screen. It should soon say "reformatting..." Let it sit and it will finish and shut itself off.
6. Unlock the player by sliding the lock tab on the top of the player to the left so you don't see the orange.
7. Press the power button and turn the player on. Select your language and you should be good to go and ready to reload your music and pics. It worked for me and I hope it works for you! :o)

It sounds like some data corruption.

Try this;

Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted.

You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.

- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds)
- Slide the hold switch into "hold" position.
- Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.

Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.
