Having a problem with the CD player skipping.
The CD will play about 10-15 seconds of the first track, then starts skipping. If I skip ahead to the next song, or even 10 songs into the disc, it will say "nd" (no disc) and won't play anything. It happens on every cd I try.
I've tried a CD lens cleaner (GE Laser Lens cleaner from walmart) and it hasn't helped.
Any ideas?? Thanks in advance.
Not a bad thought - however I've had it mounted for 2+ years and it just barely started skipping. Think that would make a difference? Not a bad thought - however I've had it mounted for 2+ years and it just barely started skipping. Think that would make a difference?

It's having trouble reading the CDs. The thing that reads it could be dirty. But try a different cd. The CD player is getting old and if there is even a small scratch it will be hard to read it. A new CD player would be the way to go
hi
There is a diode in the power supply which gives dc supply to the laser focusing coil driver ic . if the diode get faulty this problem can occur. Just replace all the rectifier diodes in the power supply stage. Its better than searching for the exact one. then check the cd player is it skips the tracks. if then also its skips the tracks then you have to change the laser pickup unit.
ok
Your cd player is fubar and in definite need of replacement.
Tape unit seems to have a mind of its won. Try to reset the electronics to factory defaults. If that has no remedy, since it is a sony< best advise is to trash it. Repair cost is prohibitively expensive.
There are two ways either the 90* or the 180*. If your having problems like skipping I'd suggest finding a place at the center of the car where there is less shock for the unit, like under your seat. I know changers have this 6 seconds or more memory so in case it skips, the first 6 sec ahead of the song is stored and play it to avoid the skip.
Sorry but this unit has a problem with the tracking servo. The problem could be an alighnment, or a bad componet such as the laser assembly, tracking motor or tracking driver IC, with all of these problems the unit will need to come out of the vehicle. Good Luck
some cd players have a feature that is called intro. it plays typically the first 4 to 10 seconds of a song & goes to the next track. it does this to every song on the cd. see if intro is on your display or if it's turned on in the menu.
i hope it works. good luck.
