I hook my usb cord to the camera then hook it into my laptop and it is supposed to automatically pop up the picture folder and give me an option to download the pitures. When I plug it up and cut the camera on the folder doesnt pop up. I didnt know if there is something I need to download. I do not have the software. This was my aunts old camera and she gave it to me, but couldnt find the software. she only gave me the usb cord and the camera. Is there a place like in the control panel or some folder that you can go into and find the pictures and transfer them. Really confused. please help!
The computer doesn't know what the camera is without the software. You can download the software from the nikon website. Easier fixes are available. If it is a notebook (laptops arent laptops anymore more) you should have a card reader slot on the left side of your computer. Remove the SD card from the camera and plug it into their computer. Then you'll have the option to import the pictures.

Upload The Nikon Software CD. Configure Your CAM. Then See What Happens. I Have A Kodak And Used To Run Into Da Same Problem! Pissed Me Off. Finally Realized That I Need To Upload The CAMS Software.

SOURCE: How to transfer Nikon Coolpix camera pictures to memory card?
Make sure you have an SD memory card inserted and your camera is on. Press the Play button to view your images. Now press menu and scroll down to the copy feature. You have two options, copy from camera to memory card is on top, and from memory card to camera is on the bottom. Once you select your option, choose your pictures and copy.

Lardzor.

Do what the pros do...use a card reader.
