First in the OS make sure that recording device is USB (Start > Setting > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio > Audio). Adjust the audio recording volume, as well (Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control > Options> Properties. Click on Adjust Volume For Recording, for some versions of Windows). Unfortunately you can't directly listen to the recording on USB in this software. You would need a regular turntable with amplifier and then RCA L/R audio to 3.5 mm audio adapters. Connect this to the Line In of the computer (blue port) on the sound card. Then set the recording device to Line In and unmute Line-In in a similar way as above.

Now try recording in Cakewalk Pyro. (I recommend making a short recording and then playing it back to check the settings.) Try the Windows Sound Recorder (similar to finding the audio recording volume) to record if Pyro doesn't work. You may have a problem with the USB turntable or your USB port. You should see a waveform if the software is recording anything. Adjust the audio so that the entire waveform is consistently less than 100% of the maximum. A flat line in the center of the audio trace is a sign that there is no incoming audio signal. I usually start the software recording and then start the turntable at the correct track. Thus a flat line for a few (~10 seconds on my system) is normal.

After recording, you need to export the file or files as MP3s. (I subdivide a longer recording into tracks but that can be a pain. Identifying the "break points" is not always obvious.) Then File > Export (iirc). Select the MP3 option and the quality. I put all my music into the myusername/music/recordings subfolder (I created the folder) to make them easier to find again.

Connect the USB cable from the Nook to the computer. Access the Nook from the File Explorer. (Double-click on the Computer (My Computer) icon with Windows, it's the Devices icon on a Mac.) Then double-click on the Nook's icon (there may be more than one).

Open a second explorer window to the directory where you saved the MP3s. Then just drag and drop the files/folders to the Nook. If you put the files onto the internal memory of the Nook, make sure to put them in the My Music or My Audiobooks folders. (You can do transfer the files to the memory card without plugging in the USB cable, if you have a card reader. Just be careful not to lock the read/write switch on the card and do not reformat it.)

I've used several programs and found Audacity (free) to be just as good and straight-forward to use. However, the programs all work the same way. If the USB device isn't working (or the default recording device), you get nothing.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(I will note that most of my recordings were done from cassettes using Line-in from the headphone jack. Thus I only had to diagnose problems with the patch cable and the default recording device once I checked that my headphones worked for the tape. I saved my recordings as WAV and then burned them to CD as Disc At Once for a player that didn't read MP3s.)

Can I somehow transfer vinyl from my kr-v4060 to my laptop. I do have a turntable.

It is possible BUT can depend on the turntable you have, what connectors are on the turntable/Laptop and the software program you are using to 'translate' the information.
You are trying to convert 'Analogue' information, (the Vinyl), into Digital information, (The laptop). They are nowhere near the same language.
You can buy relatively cheap little turntables with a USB port and a built in converter that you can plug directly into your laptop. This is by far the easiest way to do it. All you need then is a software app like "Audacity" to use to actually record the music as it plays. However it is worth noting that you might not get as good a sound quality from the cheapest of these turntables.
If your turntable does not have this feature you will probably need an extra piece of equipment often called an 'Audio Capture Device'. Again sound quality can sometimes be affected depending on the price you paid.

How do I transfer LPs to my iMac/iTunes Library

HARDWARE: You will need a turntable, a phono pre amp, and an analogue to digital converter.

SOFTWARE: You will need software on your computer to take the adigital data stream from the analogue to digital converter (probably via a USB cable) and transfer it into mp3 files on your computer, which can then be saved in iTunes or any other number of digital music platforms.

There are turntable solutions designed to do this. Some have all 3 hardware elements integrated into the turntable, and come with the necessary software on an included cd-rom. I have seen these kits for under $200. Not exactly audiophile grade turntables, mind you, but they will get that one off vinyl of grandpa's barbershop quartet preserved in the digital domain.

Good luck!

Music volume low when digitizing vinyls

The software itself should come with an sound imput level control. But if you can't find it or it's on full then there are ways round it. However it depends on how the turntable is connected to your computer. Most turntables require in an amp to have a magnetic cartridge pre-amp to boost the level to that say of a tape. Rather than mess around sometimes it's better to get one of these pre-amps and have that between the turntable and the computer. Then the sound should be the same level as a tape signal. You will have to bypass that pre-amp if you are recording anything else such as tapes to your computer. Or you will get a noisy loud signal!
Just search for a "magnetic cartridge pre-amp" on the web.

Bad sound quality

You cannot connect the turntable via a microphone port. You need to connect via a USB port. If you have not got a USB port to connect it as the others are in use, you can buy an extension USB socket which, will allow you to put more devices via one USB port.

Can I use Itunes on my Nook color?

Step 1:

You can transfer any music files which are not DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected. In order to put the files on your Nook, start by connecting your Nook to your computer with the included USB cable. See here for pictures: http://www.technipages.com/transfer-itunes-music-to-nook-color.html

Step 2:

Using Finder on a Mac or My Computer on Windows, double click the "MyNookcolor" removable device. Then, open the folder called "My Files".

Step 3:

Open iTunes and right click any of the top columns. Choose "Kind" from the options. This will add a new column.

Step 4:

Click the top of the new "Kind" column so the column will sort by kind of file. Any files that are "Protected AAC Audio Files" may not be transferred to your Nook.

Step 5:

Drag any unprotected files you wish to the "Music" folder in the "My Files" folder you opened earlier.

Step 6:

Once finished, eject your Nook by right-clicking the device and choosing "Eject" in Windows, or dragging the device to the trash on a Mac. You can now find your audio files on your Nook by going to "Extras", then "Music"

Not all of the sound/music is being transferred from the LP.Hard to explain, but its when the LP has sound coming out of each speaker independent of one another, only one side is coming out on the recorded...

I know this is an old post, an I dont' have a solution yet, but t seems the same problem as on my Ion USB recorder - One of the input channels is not working. Like you, I found one of my music tracks not plying right - there was only the instrumental and no vocal. When I experimented, and changed round the jacks on the cable coming from the turntable (red and white plugs), I then got only vocals and no instrumental. Obviously one of the input sockets on the USB recorder is no longer working (I already checked the turntable and cable itself by playing back he same track with both stereo channels through my amplifier). You can either get the item replaced if its still under guarantee, or fix it yourself, if you have the necessary skills, neither of which apply to me.

I own a Bush RP A3 turntable and radio with CD=need instructions

FIRST READ ALL, then check cables u need, then proceed!

u want to connect turntable to pc - don't need usb

or connect turntable audio-out to radio/cd.player and this combination to pc?

recording on mp3 player is an option, but quality else is much better!

u will need for case 1:

a pc-program called audio-grabber 1.83, downloadable on the inet
a pc with soundcard that has audio-in (3.5mmplug, also used for small microphones
and earphones)
and at least win 2000 on it
the cable connecting turntable and pc(see following)

if turntable has audio-out like

- two red and black-cinch ports (to connect to amplifier/radio)
you need adaptor cable from 2-plug (red/black, male) to 3.5mm audio-in (similiar tor headphones,
male version)

- turn-table has small(3.5mm) or big (6.3mm) earphone-in,
use signal from here, connect tt with pc using adaptor cable
(3.5mm, male + 6.3 to 3.5mm separate adappor (small earphone to fit in big) at one end and
3.5mm, male to plug into pc-soundcard's audio in)

do all the pluggin', then turn on PC, start up audiograbber, turn on tt let play, press record button
in audio grabber, make an test recording, half a minute will do.
now let audiograbber sample theresulting .ogg file to test.mp3 and test-play it with windows media player on your pc

voila une mp3 !

to have every song from vinyl sepatetly as mp3,
record and name it serately in audiograbber, let it sample down to mp3 and enjoy!
u may have to fiddle through audio-grabber's menus and adjust volume, sample rate(quality of mp3)
to your comfort, but now u own legal copies of your vinyls, with still the analog vinyl tickle
and know how to use audio grabber as an recording tool for any music that is played on or put into a pc, incl. webradio other webcasts

please don't stop the music

Proper cleaning of old vinyl record albums

Get yourself a nice carbon fiber brush. Purchase some record cleaner or just get some isopropyl alcohol 90% (it has less impurities). Secure the arm of the turntable so you don't scratch the record and put the record on it. Put some of the cleaning solution on the brush..not the record. Put the brush on the record and turn the platter counter clockwise to work the dirt loose. Check the brush and clean it if need be and repeat. Take the record off and clean the turntable. Flip the record over and repeat the cleaning process. That should do it. Thanks for stopping by and come back if you need more help. If you don't mind, rate my answer appropriately. Thanks.
