1) Open a command prompt (or terminal, under System Tools)
2) Verify your system default route (route -n)
a) Does route 0.0.0.0/0 exist?
1) Does it have a gateway IP address similar to that of your cable company? If so, try 'ping 8.8.8.8'
2) Is the gateway IP address similar to 192.168.x.x? If so, you have a local router. Verify that you can 'ping 8.8.8.8'. If not, try to ping your router IP address.
3) If still unsuccessful, verify your IP address.

SOURCE: linux 5 is not detecting my broadband modem

The connecting to internet is very easy in linux .

There are many steps but i am saying simple one

Initially configure the adsl router with ppoe over ethernet and enable dhcp address option.

Next plug the ethernet cable from router to the inteface of lan card.

Boot the redhat machine.

In the system-->Administration-->network options check whether lan card is detected and active .

If the lan card is not active activate and save

In lan card select option assign assig ip automatically

check whether ip is assigned by using command ifconfig .

Can't support RHEL 5

Go to Redhat.com

Redhat may not support this board.
You need to read the supported hardware under your version of Redhat.

With Linux, as with any operating system, you should always get the latest version. The newer versions may support the newer hardware. This is not always so...

Go to the support on the redhat.com website. If you have a subscription, you will have complete support.
Go to free websites for Linux and ask with blog or other email, etc. about your problems with the specific version you have. It is very important when asking for help, to state your version. This way the helper will have more places to go to help you.
