I have a LAN internet connection from cable operator..i am not able to connect to internet through redhat linux....what are the steps to connect to internet???
1) Open a command prompt (or terminal, under System Tools)
2) Verify your system default route (route -n)
a) Does route 0.0.0.0/0 exist?
1) Does it have a gateway IP address similar to that of your cable company? If so, try 'ping 8.8.8.8'
2) Is the gateway IP address similar to 192.168.x.x? If so, you have a local router. Verify that you can 'ping 8.8.8.8'. If not, try to ping your router IP address.
3) If still unsuccessful, verify your IP address.

The connecting to internet is very easy in linux .
There are many steps but i am saying simple one
Initially configure the adsl router with ppoe over ethernet and enable dhcp address option.
Next plug the ethernet cable from router to the inteface of lan card.
Boot the redhat machine.
In the system-->Administration-->network options check whether lan card is detected and active .
If the lan card is not active activate and save
In lan card select option assign assig ip automatically
check whether ip is assigned by using command ifconfig .

Get the drivers for your WiFi card for the correct edition of your RedHat. Wireless card may be incompatable with red hat.
