We have a Kohler Ingenium toilet and it won't stop running. The black part in the toilet that is suppose to come up and make the water stop running doesn't come up all the way(it sticks and the water runs past it). How do we fix it?
I have a Kohler toilet and Ingenium fill valve
85297-AA. My toilet kept running, the fill valve black cylinder
wouldn't pop up and when I added blue food coloring to the tank, the
blue color seeped through to the toilet bowl. First I replaced the
flapper and that allowed the fill valve piece on the cylinder to pop up
correctly and blue dye no longer seeped through to the bowl. I still heard a hissing sound when the toilet tank had
filled and no water was going into the overflow tube. I called the tech
support number on the Kohler website 1-800-4KOHLER (1-800-456-4537) .
Here's what solved the problem: Turn off the water to the toilet.Take
off the white cap of the fill valve by pushing it down and turning it
counterclockwise as you would open up a childproof pill container. Then
unhook the metal hook. Hold a cup upside down (I used a strong plastic
cup) over the part of the fill valve that is left in the tank and turn
on the water. (You need the cup because otherwise the water will squirt
up to the ceiling.) The water will flush out the fill valve. Replace
the cap and the hook and flush.
One thing to note that might not be obvious: when you rotate off the white cap you also rotate the arm. You can also see the instruction sheet for this model valve:http://support.fluidmaster.com/realdialo...
Wow, this was exactly the problem. Also have a Kohler toiler (new); started hissing and running constantly. I followed this procedure and it fixed the problem. Thanks.

This worked for me too but I was afraid of breaking the fill valve. I unsnapped the plastic fill adjustment screw from its holder and the fill valve rotated easily. Otherwise, I could not get it to rotate at all.

worked for me too. some scale broke loose in y pipes and clogged the valve seat. Saw a big chunk come out when I cracked open the water supply with the top assembly removed. thanks for the instructions :)

There is a metal rod that adjusts how low in the water the black cylinder thing-y sits. Squeeze the top and bottom of the little clips and move the black cylinder farther down on the rod. This will make the black things rise with less water and then the water will stop flowing before it reaches the top of the overflow tube. Worked for me.
Clean around the black rubber that seats and make sure it lands flush,replace if ness.and ajust the chain with the link so it seats all the way down.
Open the back and look in, there is usually a plastic slide that goes up and down, cheap easy fix, say 7-8 dollars at your local homedepot. Also if your not interested in that, make sure the water is rising in the tank far enough, grab the end of the float in one hand, and the other end of the rod in the other (possibly take the rod and float out first, just incase), and then bend the thin metal rod downward so the float meets the water, that will make the float rise all the way stopping the water running.
