I have the same model of laptop; and not had a problem swapping with other X-series screens taken from Compaq/HP and IBM laptops. (My laptop is a bit 'incident' prone, and is +70% by weight replacement parts.)
As for assembly/disassembly and a (very) partial replacement part list, HP publishes the Service Manual(pdf) online.
Also, if you have a model with an aluminum heat sink take this opportunity to remove the sliver solder attaching the aluminum/magnesium heatspreader, and silver paste-- (someone in QC failed highschool chemistry, remember the galvanic series ?). A hard eraser will remove the worst of the rust, use an odd bit of pottery if you need a mirror finish. I then reccomend using a good latex-ceramic paste, your laptop will then avoid the spontaneous shutdown issue.
