my automatic cleaning setting in my oven will not heat up. I set "clean" on both dials and put the lock on, the fan comes on but no heat. Is there a certain system to turning it all on and the timer so it will work?

SOURCE: Jenn-Air electric range

my jen-Air has a problem with it continuing to beep. Ive tried to get it to stop by pushing all the buttons. When I pust the off/cancel button it just keeps beeping. Tried the stop timer button and same thing. When I turn on either the bake or convection bake button it automatically just shuts off by itself. It is approx 10-13 years old. HELP, or please tell me to get a new one.

SOURCE: oven slow to heat

An extremely common problem on these models is a weak silicon carbide ignitor. You may be able to see the ignitor glowing, but that is not an indicator of it being functional or not. When the ignitor gets "weak" over time, it will not create enough amperage in the circuit for the gas valve to open. You can test this using an amprobe around one of the ignitor leads and looking for at least 2.9 amps, but years of working on these appliances has shown that if you are getting the glow from the ignition but the oven is often slow to come on, you need a new ignitor. Do-it-yourselfers often mistakenly replace the oven valve or the oven temp sensor, figuring the ignitor must be good because they can see it glowing.
Replace the ignitor and your oven will work great again.

SOURCE: jen air locked latch after cleaning

I finally got my oven to work properly by shutting off the breaker and resetting the main clock. Cured the always locked problem as well as the beep twice when self cleaning.

Have to repeat this every few months since the problem seems to come back.

Oven temp fluctuates

It is normal for the thermal device to turn on and off. Obtaining a steady temp is not always possible. When setting a temperature on some ovens, they have what is called a tolerance point. That means a set temperature has a range of a few degrees up or down. At the Down point, the oven is triggered to energize the coils and bring the interior of the oven back to the settings desired. The other factor is opening the oven and allowing cool air to enter, or in some cases a leaking door seal allows air to enter and heat to escape.

Tappan Oven #MEF500PBWD heating unevenly

Perhaps the item you are using to check temperatures is not accurate. I my line of work, I use a digital thermometer which records immediate temperature. Perhaps understanding the process will help you see more accuracy in the way you read the temperature in your oven. Allow me to offer this explanation....First of all, place your thermometer near on the top rack as close to the oven temperature probe as possible. This probe is the focal point for your oven and detects the temperature and opens the electrical circuit to turn off the element when the desired set temperature is attained. Set your electric oven to 300 degrees and hopefully, you have a window in your oven to watch. The bake element will come on and the temperature will rise until it reaches 300 degrees. It is at this point when your oven bake indicator light should go out. When this happens....look inside. The element is still bright orange and emitting heat and will continue to raise the temperature in the oven to approximately 325 - 340 degrees. With this noted, you will see the temperature beginning to drop 315, 310, 300, 295, 290, 285 perhaps even 280 or some even lower to 275 and then the indicator lamp will go on indicating the circuit has closed thus turning on the element, Finally there is a variance and no range GAS or ELECTRIC will ever maintain a even 300 degree temperature. The calibration set point is based on the 300 degrees. If your oven light goes off within 20-25 degrees of three hundred degrees, your oven is already calibrated pretty close and I would not attempt to adjust it at all.

Oven door back on

My Jenn-Air oven door also comes off to clean. To remove the door you just open it slightly (to the first position) and lift the door up. To replace it just pull the hinge out about the same angle (about 15 degrees) and slide the door in place on the hinge levers and close the door.
