To unlock it Press and Hold the Home button until an “Unlocked” Message appears. also Press and hold the home button to lock the unit, this can only be preformed when the unit is powered. good luck.
Sounds to me like your hold switch is on. Have you tried sliding your hold switch on top of the player, next to the headphones jack to the off position?
Have you tried recharging the battery? If it is not showing when you connect it to your computer, try holding down the Menu/On-Off button for 15 - 30 seconds and see if it goes on.
