KV-40XBR700 turns itself off, standby blinks 5 times continuously

My KV-40XBR700 turns itself off, and then the standby light blinks 5 times in a row, and repeats continuously. I replaced all three of the MCZ3001 ICs... two on the D board, one on the A board. Unfortunatly, it still does it.

I have unplugged the tv for the 4 hour interval (to reset) and when I turn it back on, faint lines appear horizontally across the tv about a 1/4 way down from the top of the screen. They run the width of the screen and dip downward in the middle slightly. After a minute or two, the lines begin to move to the top of the screen and then disappear.

Sometimes the tv will stay on for a day or so, then it will turn off. I turn it back on, and a few minutes later it turns back off, always with the five blinks occuring. Sometimes it will just continue to turn off and I give up. Other times it will stop turning off and stay on for hours or a day.

I have heard that if it's not one of the three ICs, then it is most probably the flyback transformer. I priced the flyback transformer and it is $150.

I really don't want to trash this tv, but I also don't want to pay $150 on the transformer just to find out that wasn't the problem either.

Any help would be much appreciated. I did have a tech come out at the beginning of all this and he told me it would be $500 and no guarantees it would work. He was just really unhelpful, which is why I took on this thing myself. I miss the tech in the small town I used to live in, he was a wizard and guaranteed his work. If I was living there I would have simply let him deal with it.

Anyway, that is my story. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, starryis377, but I've already gone that route, remember? This started with a tech coming out and telling me it would cost $500 with no guarantees (the tech is from one of the places on that list you sent me to).

If I knew that a tech could help me, I'd pay the $75 it costs for them to come out, but after doing it once and getting absolutely no help, I'm not ready to toss away another $75 bucks. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Sony kv-40xbr800 stand by light flashing no picture

How many times do this standby light flashes? These flashes are fault indication, called blinking codes. From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside the TV. Count the number of flashes. If you wish to get more detail about these blinking codes to Sony TVs, check the site linked here. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

My standby light blinks 7 times ?

Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Sony KV-34HS420 shuts of and stand-by light blinks

  1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
  2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet.
