How do I scan a 35mm film negative with my HP PhotoSmart C6180?

This multi function printer/scanner cannot scan 35mm slides and negatives.
Some flat bed scanners with a lighr scource that shines through 35 mm slides and negatives can scan them.
You will be better off getting a dedicated 35 mm slide/negative scanner.

This model will not scan the negatives.

Try the best model for this purpose i.e. HP Photosmart C8180.

Scanners and Cameras

It printing from the Computer is fine. then there is a problem with the Scanner (Laser unit) need to clean.

check the scanning bay to make sure nothing is sitting in there

You can scan negatives but, put about 10 sheets of plain white paper on top of them. Otherwise, you'll pick up the reflection if the texture of the pad that holds them in place. Open them in a photoediting program and just click "Invert" You will have your photos. You can adjust the picture qualities too.

It is possiblethat the all in one solution software you used in XP doesn't work with Vista, after some update or other. You did the right thing by uninstalling and reinstalling. Make sure you have the correct driver from the HP site..

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie HP C6180) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.
