Try opening the top cover again and look into the printer with the help of flashlight or some light. I think you will find that there is paper stuck on one side of the carriage. newer cartridges often have chips which tell the printer if the cartridge is empty. these chips have to be reseted (sorry, don't know how at the moment - websearch should help). did you try a genuine cartridge? if not, you should try this first. i think the problem is a chip issue. if it's not a chip issue, the refill-ink could have damaged the printer head. but as far as i know hp integrates the printer heads in the ink cartridges -> new and genuine cartridge should help

try remove and reinstall drivers

Try plugging USB into rear of PC if its in the front.

Needs a New logic board which are nbot available

you simply go to this site , select the OS you use and download the drivers for the printer, save on your desktop. make sure the printer is disconnected from your computer . install the drivers after they are downloaded and follow instructions-- very qick and easy

Have/had the same problem: Getting "paper size mismatch" on the C4280 status screen, after we got a paper jam. Every time we hit OK and put in paper, Message about "Now printing Alignment page", it feeds through quickly, with nothing printed on the page and reverts back to Paper size mismatch. Finally got rid of the error, not sure how, but now when I try to copy anything, we only get the lower right postion of the document that I'm trying to copy. Printing from the PC seems ok.
Powered off and back on, and it is back to P"now printing alignment page, quick feed through and "paper size mismatch" error. AND
When copying directly from the glass panel,it will only print a quarter of the page -however it prints and coorectly if we print directly from the computer.
The problem is the paper size sensors. Remove the plastic access panel that is for access to the rollers in the back and has 4 rollers on it. There are two papaer sensors attached to the printer circuit board (PCB). The control arm for the sensor is a small plastic piece that extends slightly into the paper path above the PCB. The plastic can be broken when you are removing a paper jam. I stuck a small piece of a match stick in the sensor to keep it open (as though a wider piece of paper was passing throught the printer). I can't switch to smaller card stock, etc, but who cares, it works.
The copying problem is caused because the C4280 will not scan correctly until after it does the alignment phase.

Each and every printer brand has it's own software for calibration. Access your application for maintaining the printer and re-calibrate it. If this won't solve your problem then consider yourself buying a new printer head.

If the issue persists even after performing the above steps, please try with different type of paper. If the issue persists, then it will be a hardware failure and please contact the nearest Authorized Service Provider to repair this unit.

Note: HP PhotoSmart C4280 all in one is not a Laser Printer but a ink jet printer. :)

Try to unplug the power all, and make hard reset. check inside the printer might have small paper inside and clean you printer.
