Already seem to need a new power cord due to a possible crink or weak spot in the cord. But if I unplug the power cord the laptop shuts off completely.
If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.
You should to change a new laptop battery. please check this link: http://www.battery-uk.co.uk/.

If you put strain on the jack (e.g. hang power adaptor from it whilst using or charging) then the socket on the mainboard can get hot due to poor contact and melt.
There is no way to fix this except to completely dismantle the laptop and fit a new socket - most likely a repair centre will charge you for a new mainboard.
Try another adaptor to see if that is the problem (broken wire in cord) - otherwise look closely at the socket in the notebook.

Hi,
This is definitely a loose connection problem.
Does the screen go completely black or just a part ?
If its just a part, LCD is defective. You may have to change the whole LCD screen. You can get one for ~180$ from ebay
If the whole is turning off, I guess the power cable might be little loose.
You can open the LCD panel and check if you know what you are doing.
Else take it to a normal technician and ask him to open the LCD panel and see it.

In that case it is highly likely that the inverter for the LCD Screen has gone bad. This is not a super complicated repair, and can be done in most cases without soldering. The trickiest part is opening up the frame around the screen.
The inverter is under the plastic frame, just under the LCD screen, near your power button bar. There are two connectors that you can unconnect. There is high voltage, so you do need to be careful.
If you get the numbers off the Inverter, do a google search, and you can find them. They range from $30-80 just depends on the model and how easy they are to find.
If you take it to a shop, probably looking at about $100-150, depending on your area.
