Toshiba Satellite A105-S4074 Notebook Questions & Answers
The speaker has become garbled. Listening is possible but difficult.
The speakers cone usually made from polyethelene or fiber can be your problem the only way to fix it is to replace it with a new speaker. Over time cones become brittle and dry out or for a better word rot or decay. This causes crackeling in your speakers sound quality. Hope this helps you out.

How to tell if a105-s4074 satellite battery is bad
If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Pci device
Make sure the volume is up and not muted. Check the Audio and Sound
volume controls in the Control Panel. Click Start/Control Panel and look
for Audio or Sound to check the volume and to see if mute is on.
You can also click the megaphone at the bottom right near the time to check you volume and mute.
Maybe the Audio Driver needs to be reinstalled.
Get online
and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Toshiba
Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support).
Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating
system when requested. Download and install the Audio drivers.
Try the VLC Player. It comes with drivers and codec. I've seen it solve audio and sound problems.
Try using VLC as your player. Go to www.google.com and
in the search box type "download vlc" (without the quotes).
Look for the Video Lan download from site www.videolan.org/vlc Download
and install it. It downloads and installs in 3 minutes or so. It's
a very fast player, smooth and it can play just about any type of dvd formats
and media. It's totally FREE.

My trusty laptop's monitor has begun to
The could be a problem with the power on the motherboard, or the inverter board for the backlight system or it could be a loose connection. Does it flicker when you're not touching it? Move the display slightly, wiggle it gentle and try pinching it on the bottom outside edges (NOT hard) and see if it flickers then. If it does that could be a loose connection.
Unfortunately you can't really tell if it's the invertor until it totally goes out.

Dvd drive not seeing disks, running XP. Tried
If the dvd unit appears in My Computer but all disks that you put in it are not recognized then it's a hardware problem - either the laser lens is covered in dust (clean it with a q-tip) or the entire laser head is dead : in that case you will have to replace the entire dvd unit. Luckily it's a not an expensive part

My screen started to fade
I recently had a similar problem and I could tap the outer area of the monitor and it would straighten up. That was until it finally gave out completely. I replaced the screen with one I got off eBay and have not had any problems with it since.

A100 Toshiba satellite, running
If you visit Toshibas web site, follow the links and upgrade your drivers and BIOS then update all of your OS upgrades. Run Speed Disk or Defrag regularly and maybe add a bit more RAM. That will be about as good as it gets after that.
Hope it helps.

My Toshiba hard drive crashed while I was using
Toshiba laptops from mid 2007 onwards dont have a recovery disc supplied with a purchase of a laptop. Instead, Toshiba has added a hidden partion on the hard drive which contains the same files on a recovery cd / dvd.
To reinstall your laptop to the factory settings / "out of the box" settings, please follow these steps. It worked for me, and should work for you.
ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED ON YOUR HARD DRIVE IF YOU PROCEED. YOU WILL NEED TO ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE THE POWER ADAPTER PLUGGED IN. DO NOT SWITCH OFF OR RESTART YOUR COMPUTER DURING THIS PROCESS.
•1) Hold down the power button for 10 (ten) seconds to switch off your machine.
Please note: Holding down the power button on the machine forces it to switch off. Any unsaved data will be lost.
•2) Press and hold the 0 (zero) key and at the same time, tap the power button once to switch on your notebook.
•3) When the machine Starts beeping; release the 0 key.
•4) When prompted by the warning screen; select Yes to continue with the system recovery.
•5) Select Recovery of Factory Default Software; click Next.
•6) Select Recover to out-of-box state. Click Next again.
•7) Click Next to Start recovery.
I hope you find this step by step solution helpful for you.
