Put in a new needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin--use every thread guide
make sure the zig zag settings are correct
it's also possible that the machine could have a worn or damaged gear or cam--which would have to be checked at a sewing machine shop

SOURCE: Skipping stitches while zig-zagging

If you have put a new needle in then the chances are the machine has gone out of time, you can either take it in to the repair shop or you can contact me and I will attach timing instructions [email protected]

SOURCE: Zig Zag Stitch not working

THis problem occurred as I was sewing on Neoprene. I was using Gutterman all-purpose thread and a size 80 needle. Tried switching to a size 70, then to size 90. Still unable to zig zag. After inserting a test sample of cotton, the zig zag worked perfectly, so I knew it was not a mecahnical problem. I switched needles again. This time to size 90 for stretch fabric. Voila! Problem solved.

SOURCE: Kenmore 1914 Zig Zag needle wont move side to side

I have this machine and love it too. I am glad to see I was passed down a great machine from a great person. I do not have the arm cover to the machine or any cams, extra feet or Manuel. I have made do for many years but would like to know where to get parts.

SOURCE: only does zig zag stitches, no straight stitches,

make sure the pattern selector is set for straight stitch first. If it is set correct then the machine may be "stuck" is zig zag mode. May need to be de greased and then re lubricated.

SOURCE: ZIG-ZAG NOT WORKING

Make sure your presser foot is tight down. If the needle is going from side to side, it's doing it's job. If the stitches are coming out straight, the material is probably slipping back and forth to center area. The presser will eliminate this.

My needle goes side to side but the stitches are straight stitches on a brother sewing machine

So your set up to sew zig/zag and only get the zig or the zag : )

Could be top thread tension is too high. Switch to a straight stitch and reduce tension until top thread starts to appear on bottom. Then go back to zig/zag and see if it sews properly.

If still dropping stitches, check the needle is not bent and is fully inserted into the holder. Clean the bobbin, hook, and race per machine instructions. Try reducing the stitch width and see if that makes any difference. If still not right then timing may be off.

How do I adjust the needle position for straight sewing?

The stitch Width selection regulates straight-stitch or zig-zag width. Needle position does not determine straight or zig-zag. Needle position just determines whether the needle's home position is center, left, or right. Needle position can be used with straight or zig-zag stitching.

Can't get the Husqvarna Viking Platinum 775 to do a zig zag

it's very possible that a cam or gear has worn down or broken
inside the machine and also if the sewing machine is computerized
then there could be a problem there, having the machine checked
would tell you for sure.

My Bernina 1130 has zig zag problems. I have to turn my machine on for 10 minutes before it will even sew. When I sew straight it will skip a few stitches every inch or so. Now it will not zig zag mo

here are some suggestions
Skipped stitches
1. The needle is not inserted correctly
Remove needle & reinsert needle( flat side towards the back of machine)
2. The needle is damaged
replace with new needle
3. The wrong size needle is being used
Choose a needle to suit the thread & fabric
4. The foot not attached correctly
Check & attach correctly

I really recommend having the sewing machine checked to
see if there is a internal problem, since you have to wait 10 minutes
before sewing & the problem with the zig zag & looping.

Trouble sewing lycra fabric using a zig zag stitch

You have the machine set for blind hem stitching. Change the stitch selector to stretch stitch, which is a single, in line stitching zig zag stitch.

I can not figure out how to set a straight stitch. I don't want a zig zag or a decorative stitch. How do i set my machine to do this?

First, make sure you select the straight stitch setting on the round dial. It is the one that has the dashed lines, looking like the stitch itself. Then, you may also want to be sure that the stitch WIDTH (dial with the picture that looks like a straight line gradually turning into a zig-zag) to the lowest setting, which is generally 0. With some machines, even after selecting a straight stitch setting, moving the stitch width can change needle position. Sometimes it will initiate the zig zag, other times it will move needle position left to right. Does that fix it?

I have a Kenmore model 1690. The needle when it goes down does not hit the hole in the foot plate. It comes down too far to the left of the opening, making it impossible to use the machine. I have...

This machine, when you have it on straight stitch, will sew with the needle to the left. If it's hitting the pressure foot, you may have the wrong pressure foot on the machine. If it's hitting the needle plate when you have the pressure foot removed, it's possible you have set for zig zag and you have a straight stitch needle plate on the machine. I believe this machine came with 2 needle plates. One for straight stitch, and another for zig zag.

Suddenly zig zag stitch not working?

Because it is almost a straight stitch but the needle continues to move in a zig zag fashion is reason to believe it is in a long stitch. By changing the number of stitches per inch there will be a very noticeable looking zig zag stitch.
