What format has the drive been formatted in? NTFS or FAT? If it is NTFS it won't work, NTFS is the default format of most modern OS. You need to back up the data and re-format the drive to FAT format and copy the files back on to it.

SOURCE: External Hard Drive Not Regonized

Hello,
I can help you with this. Follow these instructions--> Start-->Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Computer Management, under the Storage section select "Disk management". Locate the external harddrive, and then change the drive letter.

Select the external drive. Right click, and select "Change drive letters and paths"-->Highlight the driveletter to change-->Click the "Change" button-->From the drop-down list choose an unused drive letter, and hit Ok.
The external drive should be recognized and accessible at this point. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank You, Raph30

SOURCE: Seagate,external, Hard drive,160GB,knocked over,doesnt work

Buy a new drive. The beeps are coming from the hard drive and they say I'm broken. If you need to recover data, and only if you need it like life and death because it will cost a bit, send it to a data recovery company. I would search on line and look for somebody local to you for this if you need it.

As for your old drive, if you like to tinker, you may be able to remove the drive from the case and replace it with a similar sized drive with a matching interface (ide or sata). I personally like to remove the rare earth magnets from bad drives to make refrigerator magnets and toss the aluminum housing into the metal recycling barrel. It also ensure personal data is never coming off those platters.

I just recently bout a 250gb simple tech external drive. I came home installed but it wont show in my computer

You might try a different cable or use a USB "Y" cable to supply enough powere for the drive to work, as some computers have difficulty providing enough power from a single port. If you need more help, please call HitachiGST Tech Support M-F 8AM to 6PM PST at 1.888.426.5214 and a technician will be happy to help you.

I restored my computer and i saved all my data in my one touch 4 mini hard drive. Now my computer wont read one touch 4 mini 250gb. can some one please help me i lost everything?

No, you haven't lost anything. When you restored your software, you only restored the factory stuff. You'll need to reinstall the driver for the external hard drive. After you do that, your external drive and data should be accessible.

Problems loading hard drive

It sounds like you need to update your USB or FIREWIRE motherboard drivers. I would lookup your motherboard model # and make...than download the most recent drivers from the manufacturer and try again.
