Hi! I have a problem with my new desktop (9 month old). Every new start after night rest it offers safe mode and does not load if I say him load an ordinal way. Well, I go then to safe mode and a couple of minutes latter (looking through system messages (Control panel/Administration...)) I make soft shut down. Most often, the next start is OK. It repeats from first day. I tried to reinstall Windows a couple of times, it does not help. There was a period (Summer) when it has been started with no problem, but not too long. Last month I notice a new warning saying that HDD has block errors. Now I'm testing my HDD and can see 73 error blocks (10 per cents scanned yet by Victoria HDD test program). What you say on that? Is it fixable or you'd advise me to change HDD or something else? I have Windows XP SP2 updated and Samsung HD200HJ hard disk.
Yes, better replace the hard drive. because even if you try and run a repair and work it will fail in the future. to keep your data safe i suggest that you replace your HDD now.

There's a number of reasons that you could have that issue. HDD failure, RAM failure, some sort of Windows driver issue.
Try restarting the computer and before the Windows loading screen, start mashing the F8 key. That should bring you to a screen that offers to start you in safe mode. Try starting in safe mode, which only loads the absolutely necessary files for Windows to load, and see if it'll start up there. If it does, attempt to use Windows Recovery Tool.
For that you need to fix error on harddrive. For that You can solve this errors with following 2 methods. (1)When you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode. Then if you are able to enter in safe mode then uninstall driver or software which you installed recently and face this error. (2)If
you are not able to enter in safe mode Then you need to fix error on
hard drive. For that you need windows disk or recovery disk. Boot your computer with that disk For that when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 "del" key to enter in bios. Then go to boot menu and set frist boot device as your cd or dvd rom. Then save settings and exit bios. Insert windows disk in cd /dvd rom. Then it boot with that disk. Then you get this message "Press any key to boot from cd.." Then press any key. Then follow the procedure then enter in recovery console mode then type in prompt "chkdsk /r" Then type "y" Then it fix error on hard drive. Then
check if again you are not able to enter in windows then boot again and
this time choose "R" option for repair previous windows " then it
repairs old windows then it loads again old windows. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
hi, i guess your os is definitely corrupt. in such case i advice you do a clean forma of the os. just back up your files and then format it with the os installation cd
If you mean running a hard drive scan such as CHKDSK (check disk) then you may have a failing hard drive. Try taking the computer into safe mode. (repeatedly press the F8 key after switching the computer on, then doing a three count--must be dont before the windows logo appears; choose safe mode or safe mode with networking). If the computer loads up normally in safe mode, then you have a software or harware conflict. If not, look at the hard drive.
either you have a virus or a corrupted dll file.
eitherway, beside create a bootable CD or Floppy disk, and try to fix from there, thats' time a money.
the next best thing, is to reinsall the operating system.
the other option is get a new hard drive and install the operating system on that so you can preserve the data you have on the old one.
1. Get Windows XP Booteble CD from a friend or simple download it for example "WINDOWS XP PROsp3 x86 32 BIT" 2. Burn it on CD 3. Switch on your Laptop/PC 4. Press F12 5. Put your Windows XP to your CD/DVD drive 6. Choose from a manu DVD/CD 7. Press any key to start instalation 8. wait a couple minutes and pres R for Repair 9. wait until you will se C:\ 10. and finally type "chkdsk c:" 11. after all restart laptop/pc 12. Enjoy
Is this still under warranty? If not then you'll just need to buy another HDD (hard drive device) and connect that one where the old was. Re-install XP or Vista. Conact Gateway or go to the Gateway web site to see what was hardware was supported for your system.
HDD IDE/EIDE or SATA/SATA II OS XP or Vista
After you find out the info just install the new HDD, and install the OS. I only recommend doing this since you can't even get into the Safe Mode. When everything is back up and running you can also re-attach the old drive to what is called Slave or CS (cable select) this is more automatic process. Then you'll be able to recover any data missing that you need that was on the older drive.
Try starting it in safe mode. (Hold F8 after power on). If you get your icon screen go to start, run and type in msconfig. Click startup and disable all the items. Hit OK and try a normal restart. This error can be caused by a bad program starting up.
Thanks a lot to mrbrown0603!
I'll try to do it like you said. But first I'm going to test other parts-(
Thank you!
