We have 5 lines in office on a Nortel Norstar system and an incoming call would be directed to any of these lines as per availability. Recently the telecom provider changed some cabling. After this if an incoming call comes and Line 5 is busy, the incoming call gets a busy tone. What could be the issue?

SOURCE: "flash busy" message when trying to retrieve voicemail messages

It is telling you that the voice mail ports are busy and can not take another call in to the voice mail system. If the port the does not clear up after a min or two then reset the voice mail system . Unplug the power cord from the wall and let it set for a min , then plug it back in and wait about 5 min for the system to come back up , that should free up the ports .

SOURCE: Nortel M7310 Phone moved to another jack, now no incoming calls

The reason your phones config is not the same as before is because configuration goes by what extension it is. So if you plug your phone in somewhere else, unless you have DN's configured, your extension changes, so say it was extension 21, but now that you moved it, its now 23, those settings remain on extention 21, so if you bought another phone and plugged it into were extention 21 is, it would have the settings that your old phone had before

To access the intercom by just picking up the handset, Press Feature **CONFIG (266344), Select <A. Configuration>, then go to <2. Line Access>, Select that and enter the extension of the phone you want to have access intercom by just picking up the handset. Scroll until you see <Intercom Keys: #,> make sure you have at least one intercom key. Then scroll until you see <Prime Line: #>, Press change until the display reads <Prime Line:I/C>  And there you go. Hope i didn't confuse you

How to make phone ring for two incoming lines

This is tech side programming known as Configuration, clients usually call in a tech/vendor for this.
You need to find out the password and know how to navigate the system programming, do F**266344 and enter the password.
Navigate to Sets, add line in question , assign ring type.

What module do I need to purchase to get called ID on my M7310

The Norstar 616 system was made before CLID was readily available. You could however, purchase a Nortel CICS system with CLID card(s). CI trunk cards handle up to 4 lines per card making the capacity of the system 8 lines by 16 stations. The CICS system will work with the existing m7310 sets you have so you wouldn't have to incur the cost of new telephones.

I am considering buying a Nortel T7208 2 Line phone for my home office. I have two separate lines, with two separate numbers. I need a phone that will allow me to plug both lines into the desk top unit. I...

Hi there...

OK, the Nortel T7208 set works only on a Nortel system.
It has only one line cord plugged into it, cause the telephone system can be programmed for more telephone lines and features from the system.

If you want just a home (analog) telephone service; look at Aastra/ Telematrix/ there are others - 2 line sets.

ONLY buy this Nortel set is you have a Norstar system. Otherwise the set will not work for you. It needs a system to run off.

Good luck in your search!

I can't change the main greeting for our office line..

Unfortunately, Office systems are all controlled by a central system that requires an administrator to make changes such as recording the system answer menu, creating menu systems, etc. This is usually done by the I.T. department or private contractor. Sounds like maybe you have a gap in personnel. If that's the case, you'll need to call Nortel for support. Thanks for using Fixya!
