Hi, my name is Todd and I am a Certified Panasonic Telephone Technician.
Sorry for the plethara of incorrect answers. These guys try to be mavens, and most of the time have no clue as to what they are talking about.
First, you need to check the connection on the KX-T30860D and make sure there is solid lock on the clamp.
Then, you should be able to check the voltage on the doorphones, as power is going to them, and just may not be enough or because of a break somewhere in the wiring is not shorting out somewhere.
I will continue.
You are correct, these units are discontinued, but you can find some pretty good refurbished units out there. We pay about $199.00 for excellent quality and warranty. I am also aware of one repair facility that does a good job, for a reasonable price.
Their name is Barclay Enterprises, Inc..
For $69.00 they will repair your unit and ship it back to you pretty quickly.
What model phone system do you have, because the KX-T30865 should be a direct replacement unit also, and it is only about $35.00.
To clarify, those are for the door phones themselves.
Sorry, I just reread your post and see you have the KX-T30810. There is no replacement for the KX-T30860D.

Check the mic section on your end.
trace connection, mute option if there is one.
If you cannot hear the signal from any of the two doorphones, then probably it is the common adaptor.
Try posting a request here, this is probably the only place that can have some in stock.
If you cannot find the replacement, take off the module and take it to a good elechtronic repair shop, or test it yourself, if you know how to use a Multimeter.
If you know how to solder and use a multimeter, grap your tester, remove the unit, open it and start working on it.
Test the microphone contacts, see if there is continuity on the wiring, use the multimeter to test impedance on the cable.
If the mic must be replaced go to any circuit shop , buy a spare one that can fit and solder it back.
Inspect the board, see if you can spot a burnt area, test main components capacitors etc.
If you still cannot find the problem, there you will need the service manual.
There you find all the diagrams to test ICs and other parts, you can buy the service manual here.
This same job can also be done at any good electronic repair shop.

I don't think it's the power supply. When someone rings the doorbell and I answer it, I can hear them but they cannot hear me. There is a KX-T30860D doorphone adaptor that is common to both doorphones that could be bad. Panasonic no longer makes the KX-T30860D. Is there a substitute or can it be repaired? Also can caller ID be added to this system. Thanks
The KX-T30810 system was installed in 1991 and has worked fine. I have replaced both door phones in the past with no problem. I am an engineer who can follow your directions. If you can not give me a suggestion than I will take it to a qualified tech. My zip code is 23503
