I would have to see the old one to compare it with the new one. My advice is to take it back as it is obviously not the right one!

  • Anonymous Nov 13, 2011

Thanks for this, on the old part their is a blue, red, brown and grey wires and on the new part the connection points are numbered 5, 4, 3 and 8. They didn't send a wiring diagram with it and my electrician doesn't want to take a chance in case it blows. I got the part direct from Hotpoint so do you think i should just send it back?

Yes definately :O) Hotpoint have obviously messed up and should put it right straight away if not, have a look on partsmaster and espares to see if they have what you want. They usually display an image of the part so you can compare.

I'm trying to replace the timer on my hotpoint tumble dryer an I can't remember were all 10 wires go please help

It's always best to leave the old timer connected, then get the new one and move the wires one at a time from the old timer to the new. If you didn't do that.....

I don't have your model number - if you look for that - on the door or the back - maybe we can point you to the diagram. Let us know.

Im looking to fit a new timer to my tumble dryer and the new 1 i have purchased has different electrical connections so i dont know what wire goes where, i made a diagram of the old 1 thinking they would...

It is very difficult to mesh and wire the diffferent timers as it is best to get the original type which would be easy to fit as according to your diagram.
Only if you are aware of the output and inputs of the old timer along with the outputs and inputs in the new timer can a new diagram with the wire codes be drawn and then wired. if not please do not try with a chance wiring as it might turn to be dangerous and damaging.

I have an Intermatic ST01c installed in a 3-way. Both switch and timer operate properly manually. The timer will turn on the lights at the programmed time, but will not turn off the lights at the next...

1) Open following link to compare correct 3-way wiring diagram against your wiring:
http://waterheatertimer.org/ST01C-program.html#ST01C
Blue wire must always connect to the Load (light)
The red wire is designed to reverse the timer. Each time the timer-red wire comes in contact with the timer-blue wire, the timer program is reversed.
So the 2nd 3-way switch is wired differently than regular 3-way wiring.
The 2nd 3-way switch merely connects and disconnects the red and blue wires, reversing and re-reversing timer program, and that's how the timer works for 3-way switching.
And that's why the red wire is capped off when timer is used for single-pole application.

2) Next thing to check is your programming.
I believe you press Mode button until PGM displays and then press on-off to see program settings.
When programming is finished, press mode button to save setting.
Use same link above. Look at step-by-step programming instructions.
Look for conflicts in programming.
For example make sure event1 ON and event2 OFF are scheduled for same days.
Make sure event2 is set.

I get lights when I turn the switch to on but as the timer advances, it doesn't trip and turn the timer on

You posted under Intermatic T101 timer.
Add a comment if timer is different.

http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html#T101
1) If this is new timer installation, it sounds like black wires on terminals 1 and 2 are reversed.
Other cause could be the ON-OFF trippers not positioned on timer dial

2) If this is old timer that worked before, then tripper pins could be worn down.

Need connection diagram Thks

The following diagram is for timers with green, black, white, and red wires:
If your timer is different, add a comment with model number.

geno_3245_66.jpg

Manual says:
Timer-black-wire to Hot; Timer-red-wire to Load (lights)
Timer-white-wire to Neutral.
Here's what to do
1) Timer-green-wire connects to bare ground wire.
2) Switch has 2 wires. Take switch wires and connect them to timer-black-wire and timer-red-wire. Choose either one for now.
3) In back of electric box are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nut. Connect timer-white to these wires.
4) If electric box does not have white wires described above, then connect timer-white to bare ground.
5) Turn on electricity, and push manual override button. If lights come on, timer is wired correctly. If lights do not come on, then reverse timer-red and timer-black wires.

My switch has only a white wire (hot) and a black wire (neutral). Witch one dose the red wire connect to?

If you have a different timer than the one shown below, add a comment with your timer model and I will help.
Different timers use the red wire differently.

You posted under Intermatic ST01C.
If the ST01C is your timer, then the red wire is capped off.
The black-timer wire connects to black wire.
The blue-timer wire connects to white wire.

IF the timer does not work after wiring, then try reversing the blue and black wires.

The following photo shows the EJ500 timer which is wired exactly like the ST01C

The reversing tumble action is controllerd by the timer, so it could be contacts in timer.
It is useable running in one direction.
Check for loose or broken wires to motor as well.
Hope this is off some help to you.
