Have a Gateway Notebook KAV-60 with a broken screen. Trying to connect to an external monitor without any prompts or commands, as I can't see the screen. With an Acer Netbook I just plugged in the

Make sure the vga cable is in tight on the kav-60 and the external monitor.

Try the keystrokes to toggle the display. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN function key located at the lower left on the keyboard then hit the key F1 thru F12 that toggles the display. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit will have LCD/CRT on it or it will have the icon of a display. The display toggles in three stages ( laptop only, external only or both laptop and external).

J have a Acer3610 with craked hindges, other words the cover needs to be replaced and I was told that Acer has discontinued this model and all parts. what now?

I have super glued, oe Araldited, these hinges very successfully. This is all I can think to do. Or sometimes for a client, i will get a 2nd hand broken one from say eBay, Craigslist etc. You can also "Ask" for bits from places like that too. I often ask other PC repairers in the area if they have any trashed ones, often they will just give them to you to get rid of "junk" have a search, I am sure you will find one.

The screen is extremely dark on the e620, how do you adjust the screen brightness

Look for the symbol on the keyboard, usually on f4 and f5 that looks like a sun, it will be stamped usually in a light blue or purple color. Hold down the fn key which is to the left of your keyboard and use the F5 key or brightness symbol with arrow up to brighten the screen. If the screen still does not get very bright, it may be an inverter or and LCD Issue.

Connect broken laptop screen to external monitor

Suggestion- on my toshiba fn-f5 switches display modes, but to remove display connectors, you may have messed up your keyboard ribbon cable connection. it probably has a small sliding lock to hold it in place- if the lock isn't tight, your keyboard may not be recognized, which could mess up your display. Also, make sure your battery is charged and/or your power supply to your laptop is connected. hope this helps!

Display will not power on

Make sure you have not accidentally set it to external display this is usually FN + F5 or FN + F6.

If you still have no display try connecting it to an external display and again using the external display keys to tey and obtain a picture.

If you can obtain a picture on an external display then there is a good chance that either your inverter or lamp has failed. (unless its been dropped then who knows ?)

It is always sensible to replace both these even if only one of them has failed.
This type of repair is not too expensive and in some cases you could do it yourself if you are comfortable digging around inside the laptop.

Display is not coming , black screen is there

If you get zero display at all check if you can hook up an external monitor first to determine if problem is with screen or video card.
If display can barely be seen that is practically black but you can just see it in bright light check brightness levels of screen i cranking them up fails then you need a new screen backlight. Talk with hp about repair.

Comoaq Laptop

Give this utility a try. It is meant for tweaking screen settings to the max. It takes a bit to get used to everything it can do, but it should give you all the flexibility to move the screen around to display perfectly to work around the damaged portion of your screen. http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/powerstrip.html
