My nikon d3000 won't turn on. I used it heavily over the summer, but now i only use it for class. It gets knocked around a lot because of the nature of my summer job (camp photographer) and being at college. However, after a short fall to the hardwood floor today, the camera won't turn on at all. Help!!!

SOURCE: how to remove the battery from nikon d3000

the little trap door on the bottom houses both the memory card and the battery. you have to push the battery slightly to release it. i fond the easiest way at that point is to tip the camera and the battery usually slides right out.

SOURCE: I have a new D3000 and a nikon SB-600 flash. I

From the Nikon site, do you have one of these flash units.
Support for the Nikon Creative Lighting System when using SB-900, SB-600, or SB-400 Speedlights, or the SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander
If so You set the flash mode to "comander" the pop up flash must be UP

This Video by Nikon shows how but you will have to read the manual to get a full description go to the flash section http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d300s/index.html

Then look at them all :)

SOURCE: What settings would you use on the Nikon D3100

I'd start by setting the ISO to 200, the exposure mode to Manual, and the aperture to F/16. I'd then take a few shots at shutter speeds of 8, 15, and 30 seconds just to see what they look like. I would also be prepared to adjust the aperture a stop or two in either direction, and keep watching the results.

Most of the pictures I took at a fireworks show last year were at F/11 and 30 seconds.

My D3000 focuses, but only black images show up on the memory card. It's as if the images are not being transferred to the memory card

Dropping a D3000 is one to make you you say something bad

Outside of trying different lenses and memory cards, there\'s probably little anyone can tell you that you\'re going to like to hear. If it\'s a problem inside the camera, it should go back to Nikon for repairs. If you obtain an RMA from Nikon and send it in, they will evaluate it and give you a repair price. At that point you can decide whether or not to go through with repairs or cut your losses and buy a replacement.

Good luck!

Took pictures without memory card Nikon D3000 camera, can I retrieve them?

No. Without a memory card the camera stores the last picture taken only so you can view it to verify proper operation. It overwrites the previous picture, and it disappears when you turn the camera off.

You NEED a memory card if you want to save the pictures. Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but that's the way the camera works.

Can you use the Quantaray 70-300mm on the Nikon d3000 and or can you use Nikon 55-200mm on the d3000

The Nikon lens, absolutely.

Quantaray makes their lenses with a variety of mounts. A lens with a Canon mount, for example, will not fit on the D3000. Assuming the lens has a Nikon mount, then yes, it will work with the D3000.

My friend dropped my nikon d3000 on the floor at disneyland. the body it's self is fine but the 18-55 mm lens is giving me the problem. when you try and zoom it gets stuck and won't focus. i'm...

The symptoms you describe make it sound like it will not be worth the cost of a rush repair. Because these 18-55 were shipped as part of millions of Nikon cameras they are cheap and easy to come by in camera store and pawn shops.

Can I use my Quantaray 28-80mm lens with a new Nikon D3000?

Quantaray makes their lenses available for a variety of camera brands. If the lens has a Canon mount, then no. If the lens has a Nikon mount, then yes.

Also, bear in mind that if the lens does not have an internal focusing motor then you will not get autofocusing with the D3000. Everything else will still work, but you'll just have to focus manually.

Which book would be best for a beginner w/ the D3000 to learn the camera

There are a lot of good books. What's best for you would depend on many factors, including how much experience you have or don't have with photography in general and with other Nikons or SLRs.

Below are some recommendations. You might want to browse through a good bookstore and take a look at some of them.

David Busch, "David Busch's Nikon D3000 Guide to Digital SLR Photography"

Julie Adair King, "Nikon D3000 For Dummies"

Jeff Revell, "Nikon D3000 : From Snapshots to Great Shots"

Jon Sparks, "Nikon D3000: the Expanded Guide"

J. Dennis Thomas, "Nikon D3000 Digital Field Guide"

Darrell Young, "Mastering the Nikon D3000"

In addition, there is a free video tutorial on Nikon's web site:

Nikon D3000 Monitor is black when taking a picture - any way to change it?

You can get the shooting information on it. If you're looking to use the D3000 as a point&shoot by viewing the image on the screen, then no, you have to use the viewfinder.
