The machine make a loud clanging grinding noise, and it will not spin or agitate. What could it be. It is 10 years old and this is the first problem I have had with it.
I have a Kenmore 70 series washer model no # 20722990 and is not doing anything when reaches the SPIN part of the cycle. The water is not draining as well. I have tried everything mentioned in the 'trouble shooting guide' and hence I need help.
Can anybody please tell me what is the way to drain out the standing water when the SPIN cycle is not working? Thank You in advance.
My machine is 20 + years and want to clean the drum on a Kenmore Heavy Duty 70 series. Any one know how?
I used a shop vac. I had to empty it several times, but it worked. I had the same problem you're having with your washing machine Model# 20722990. That coupler is a real problem in these units.
When this machine is not spinning, the water should still be able to drain, as the motor drives the pump on the same shaft as the coupler for the tranny. Set to the spin setting and depress the lid switch, if the water still does not drain, you may have something stuck in your pump, which would also lock the motor shaft and not allow it to spin or agitate. If the water does drain, check the motor coupler, which is located between the motor and transmission, if broken, the motor will run but there is no drive to the transmission. Hope this helps...
My drains but it doesn't spin or agitate. You can hear a motor turning but the drum is not turning. Help??
Sounds like a broken motor coupler, a three piece coupling unit that couples the motor shaft to the transmission shaft. Part # is 285753A Please refer to my other posts for complete tear down info. This repair is simple, and inexpensive.
