Pry the top lid off the agitator.
Remove the plastic shield inside.
Use a 7/16 socket and extension to remove the bolt.
Pull the agitator off the shaft.

If you have moved it recently there were some Kenmore washers that had pins on the tub underneath that fit into sort of cups. I leaned mine over and didn't get them back into place and it shook like a earthquake . There are some machines with bumpers underneath that keep the tub from moving too far to the sides. See if you can move the tub by hand side to side on all four directions to check movement. Go online and check your model for recalls, consumer complaints, world of wealth on the net.

Maybe lid switch is bad. I think that model has a fuse in the switch assembly if I remember correctly.

you'll need to access the pump and remove the hoses. Clean the inlet screen.

Their are 2 possibilites causing it to overflow

1) the water inlet valve that the hoses from the house plumbing attach to is sticking open,when it sticks it will stick open regardless if thier is power to the machine or not,so to determine if that is the problem,start the washer and quickly unplug it,if the water continues to fill, that valve is sticking

2) the water level switch is defective,do the same as far as starting it,if the fill stops when power disconected it's the water level switch that is in need of replacement

Its very possible it could be one of the tubes that run to the fabric softener or detergent.

It sounds like it could be the coupling that has worn or broke, to verify this put the washer in spin, let it drain the water out (if it will) then turn off the timer or open the lid, wait 10 seconds or so then start back up in spin. If the washer just whines then it is most likely the coupling. I have put together some instructions on this if you follow this link it will tell you more about it and how to replace it if you wish. Good for you. I don't think this model has a belt, I believe it is a direct drive with a coupler. Most likely, if you can hear the motor, the coupler has done it's job and sheared. The coupler is 20 bucks and my wife and I just changed ours out. I need the entire model number and I will get you the part schematic and we will get you going.

It could be a timer, motor or wiring problem. You would need to check for 110 volts at the timer or motor when in the higher spin mode. If you are getting 110v you have a bad motor. No or low volts you have a bad timer. The motor is either a 2 or 3 speed motor and you would have to determine which winding to check for the 110v. The schematic is usually glued to the inside rear cabinet. Please rate this post.
