Hi There

You do not mention what operating system you use. If it is Windows Vista or Windows 7, it could be a driver problem causing this (you probably worked wit XP before). The HP 970 Printer is the best part of 10 years old, and therefor drivers might be difficult to get hold of.

By the way, the HP 970 range was one of the truly better printers HP has ever made.

Here are the download links:

My Deskjet 970cxi printer is now using too much ink (which does not dry) when printing photos on premium photo paper. the results on ordinary paper are much better. How can I rectify this Ian

Hi,

When you give a photo print, the print quality will be high.
To adjust this go to Printer properties.
1) Go to control panel
2) Open Printers and Faxes.
3) Right Click on Printers.
4) Select Printer Properties.
5) Select Printing Preferences, and choose quality of photo print to medium

HP970cxi 'pen failure' problem

From what I've read, it seems that a "pen failure" is a cryptic message to indicate a cartridge failure. Replacing your print cartridges should solve the problem.
