The speed lever of my KSM90 will not stay off. To get the housing off, I have removed the rear housing, the metal band, and four screws under the housing, but the housing will not come off. Is there something else that needs to be removed or loosened?

Why wont my classic kitchenaid mixer switch off

Good Morning,

There is a spring inside your mixer attached to the speed control switch and speed control arm, the spring can sometimes get caught on the slide bar that is just below it inside the mixer. The other reason is that the speed control switch plate in the rear of the machine (that the spring attaches to) vibrates the three speed adjustment screws out or in and the spring will pull the speed switch (control arm that you use to control mixing speed when using the mixer) back to the stir position after you try to turn the mixer off.

If it is a spring problem you will have to do a full tear down to get at the spring and either free it or replace it. If it is a problem with the adjustment screws on the speed plate, that can be handled at the rear of the machine and is twice as easy to get at but sometimes much more frustrating to adjust. There are "YouTube" videos on the internet that will walk you through the process of adjusting your speed control plate just Google "adjusting speed on kitchenaid mixer" I hope this helps. please let us know if it does and if you have other questions just post them here and we will "FixYa"

Kitchenaid stand mixer won't stay in off position

The speed control lever is either bent or the screw it pivots on has come loose. The only way to solve the problem properly is to take off the back cover, remove the white and the black wires from the speed control plate, remove it from the pedestal (1 screw up inside the pedestal to remove hinge pin), take the chrome drip ring off, remove the planetary and remove the 9 screws holding the 2 case halves together. That will allow you access to the lever and you will be able to tighten the screw or remove and bend the lever to give it more tension on the bumps in the housing that hold it in off or speed positions. This list is pretty much in order of how you do it.

Regreased kitchenaide mixer now won't turn on

Did you remove the carbon brushes. If so they go back in any of four ways. But only one way works correctly. If you did not remove the brushes then you need to set the speed timing on the speed control switch at the rear of the machine and you can find a YouTube video on this exact exercise on YouTube of course. You may have also reattached the wires to the speed control switch to the wrong connectors hence no work.

I have taken all the screws out of the top of my KSM90 mixer and cannot get the top off. Do I need to use some force to separate the top and bottom metal housing parts ??

Hello Nscully,

Inorder to seperate the stand and the head you should only have to take the keeper pin out of the top end of the stand. It will require some force to get them seperated.

Kitchenaid stand mixer will not stay in the off position.

There is a spring, item #4, which hooks on to the bottom of the control plate, item # 25, and pulls it back when you move the lever to off. Remove the rear cover and see if that spring is still connected to the control plate and to the lever arm, Item # 3. Here is the diagram:

The silver band came off my KSM90 stand mixer. How do I reattach it.

The silver trim piece on you mixer can be reattached by taking the back off your unit. once this is done you will be able to see two screw holes on the left and right of your unit. simply wrap the band around the mixer correclty and use fine threaded phillips screws to attach the trim. hope this helps

Taking the top off my kitchenaid mixer

Remove the back housing by removing one screw and liftingand pulling rearward.
Remove two screws holding the metalic edge trim. This uncovers the seam. Screws are on the back.
Remove four visible screws from the bottom of the head around and near the pillar.
Now gently using a screw driver, push the metallic ring on the mixing head down and off.
This uncovers five more screws about the mixing head. Remove them.
Using a very small screw driver or punch, puch the pin out of the mixing head shaft.
Remove the mixing head housing.
Lift up on the motor housing to remove it.
The motor/gear housing is the top protion of the mixer. Its loaded with grease so do this over a covered countertop or some place easy to clean. The grease won't run, but it can fall out in gobs.
Make sure all sealing surfaces are clean, especially the gasket around the gears. This will insure a good seal. No gear grease in your famous cookies!
Reinstall in reverse.

Kitchen Aid KSM90 300watt Ultra Power Mixer

According to the service manual this is the drip cup and is really only held on by friction. I have not tried to take my mixer apart yet but I would think that if your drip cup is too loose, all you need to do is come up with something (string, paper, saran wrap, etc) that will not actually glue it together but will add sufficient thickness to help hold it in place.

Kitchenaid mixer not mixing

remove the back cover, and try tightening the two (on top) adjustment screws.  that might help but no guarantees!

Recalibrating of brushes

You don't need to guess- get a flashlight and look in the hole.  You'll see a small piece of metal in each- on one side it's upper left, the other lower right.  Put in the brush so that the notch is on the same side at the piece.  If this does not work, swap sides.  This worked first time for me.
