Often you will need to run 2-3 complete calibration cycles in a row to get the colors to align properly. And make sure that if you have the option for full calibration you run that, not a quick calibration although my memory tells me that there is only one option on this printer.

Smeared output can result when you refeed a printed page into the
printer to make a double-sided page. This happens because the
rubber
rollers that grip the paper to pull it into the printer can pick
up toner
from the first side’s printing and smear it. So before replacing
parts, this is an easy thing to check. Printing multiple pages consecutively
will make the pages print progressively cleaner or you can clean the rollers with rubbing alcohol.
Smeared toner
also happens because the nonstick coating on the
fusing roller is scratched or has baked-on debris. This can happen
if the printer is in a dirty environment especially. If you are
comfortable removing the fuser, you can try to
clean it
with a soft cloth and alcohol, but make sure you let it cool down
first!
Finally, if this does not resolve your issue then make sure the fuser is
heating; toner that is not heated properly will fall from the page and smear. If the thermostat is bad or the fuser not working properly, you will most likely need to
replace the entire fuser assembly. This will be pretty expensive to
repair so hopefully it's one of those other issues.

1 not to scratch any of the surface silvered mirrors.
2 not to disturb the alignment of any of the optical components.
It's quite a bit of dismantling (you start from the back of the printer and work your way 'into' it until you get to the laser unit). Youcan then remove the laser unit, open it up and clean it.
I just plugged my HP2605dn into a new desktop with
Duplexing on that model is controlled solely via the driver. According to HP's public support site Windows 7 should have the proper driver preinstalled for this model. If not, go to Microsoft Update and search under the Optional Software. HP doesn't have the Windows7 driver available on its website at the moment.

When I print colour prints on my HP 2605DN the red
This is a common problem on these printers.
Cause is dirty lenses and or mirrors in the laser unit.
Solution is remove laser unit, open it, clean lenses and mirrors (very carefully to avoid disturbing alignments, and scratching).
The laser unit is deep in the printer, so it's quite a lot of work, but very rewarding when you've fixed it.
Alternatives - buy a replacement laser unit and swap and clean old one at leisure, or get an exchange refurb printer - if you think your mechanical skills arn't up to it.
