After logging on screename it just continues to load

Solution: When you first boot up your computer, keep pressing F8 until a few options come up, select Safe Mode. If this doesn't work, try running a repair installation of your Operating System. If problem still persists, then do a fresh installation (back up data too!) of your Operating System. Either way, I fresh Operating System preforms at its peak. Hope I helped - donman92

Broken fan on compaq

don't keep running it until you replace the fan. Look for one on ebay or around the web. It is shutting down because of heat. A $20 fan could cost you your whole laptop if you keep running it.

Compaq cq50 laptop has been stolen can it be blocked or traced

You are on shaky legal grounds, unless you have proof that it is your computer and have grounds to have a search for your personal information on that computer. That person could have also wiped the computer clean and reinstalled the Windows operating system.
I suggest you monitor your financial affairs closely to see if there are any unauthorized access to your accounts and credit cards, then you will have grounds for fraud investigation.
I think you should have a talk with a solicitor, this could be the least cost in the long run, especially if you have banking details on your computer.

When you get a new computer or your one back, you can protect the information on your computer and hard disk by placing a Power on Password on the laptop and a Password on the hard disk.
This will prevent unauthorized access to the laptop and hard disk. Even if the hard disk is removed and placed into another laptop, the data is locked and cannot be retrieved without the password.
These password should be recorded and placed in a safe place because if forgotten there are no backdoor passwords available.

Best of luck, I hope thinks turn out OK for you.

My notebook has been stolen can i block it or trace it

Some newer systems came equipped with a limited subscription to Lojack - an electronic tracing service. Depending on where you live, you can try to use the service if you signed up.

I can't imagine how the police could consider a theft of this value being a civil matter unless you didn't report it for a year, at least in the USA.

Shut down during use

If the CPU heatsink is not clogged with dust and lint completely, you can use canned air and just blow it inside the laptop through the openings on the bottom and on the sides. It’s nice as a precaution measure, but it might not work if your laptop already has a problem and the heatsink is completely clogged.

  1. Open the laptop case, so you can access the CPU fan and the heatsink. In some cases you can access the heatsink through the latch on the bottom of the laptop. Sometimes you have to open the laptop case all the way down.
  2. Carefully disconnect the fan cables on the system board and remove the fan. If the fan makes unusual sound when it spins (grinding sound), I would recommend to replace the fan.
  3. Clean the fan and the heatsink with compressed air.
  4. I would also recommend removing old thermal grease from the CPU and applying new grease for better heat conductivity.

I cant open windows it stops at the microsoft bar

Ok, you should have a recovery program that will sort this out.

If you have a recovery CD, just insert it as soon as you turn it on, and it will then boot from the CD. Just follow the on screen instructions.

If you don't have a recovery CD, you may have a recovery partition on your hard drive. For this you need to enter your BIOS/settings screen. When you turn on the laptop, keep pressing F2. If this doesn't work, and Windows tries to load, switch it off, and try again by pressing Del.

When you are looking at the BIOS screen, you should have along the top, some page options (Something like, Information, Main, Security, Boot and Exit). Using the arrows on the keyboard, move over to Main. Now, somewhere on the screen should be something called D2D Recovery, or something similar. Highlight it and make sure it's Enabled. Also, when you highlight it, on the right habd side of the screen it will list Item Specific Help, and this will tell you what keys you need to press, this is normally Alt + F10. Now move over to exit and select Exit Saving Changes. This will then restart the laptop. As soon as it restarts, keep pressing the keys that it listed on the BIOS screen. Follow the on screen instructions.

Hope this helps.

Screen Flickers

Hi I've recently fixed 2 laptops with a very similar error, neither of which were Hewlett Packard Compaq's. That aside its a fairly common error and that is a loose connection. Unless you've a lot of experience in dismantling and reassembling laptops, I strongly reccomend taking it to an experienced technician.

I hope this helps

Need Drivers

Have you downloaded the Xp sofware update from the Compaq website? Maybe it contains the extra drivers?  If you know which audio chip(From manual, also downloadable for below) you could go to their website for the audio driver.

Compaq Presario CQ50 - touchpad problems

A simple but temporary solution would be to use an external mouse. Logitech sells several affordable and very nice wireless mice. Then you could disable the touchpad. I find them more trouble then their worth anyway and by using an external mouse you'll most definitely increase your productivity. :)

Recovery discs aren't working on my hp cq60-615dx, what should I try next?

Appears that recovery disk #2 is bogus. U can try to get a new set from HP (fat chance!) or you can do a reload from a normal, retail OS disk.
