I forgot my administrator password

Hi Deborah,To gain access to the PC once again without losing everything on it, you will need to supply the correct password. The eaiest way to do this is to CHANGE the password on the machine. Doing this is pretty easy, but does require that you have a working PC with 1) internet access - preferably a fast connection, 2) a blank CDROM, 3) a CDROM recorder. You can use a neighbor's PC or a PC at work for these parts if you need to. You will need to download a program called Hirens Boot CD to the machine with the CD ROM recorder. It is about 600 MB (yes, megabytes). The latest version of this writing is 15.2 and it can be found here. The page containing the newest version is here. Below a video that explains the process from this point on:http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_343643&feature=iv&src_vid=zSlZiZuC16A&v=Ejtm7J7WqykI hope this helps & good luck!

My computer will sometimes get stuck on MicrosoftUpdates-show

Updates immediately take over if you boot in safe mode? Try turning the machine off in the middle by just hitting the power button to see if it will go to the Startup Repair screen so you can get to the Recovery Console. Let the startup repair run, then if it says it couldn't fix it, get to the Recovery Screen and see if you can run a System Restore and select a Restore Point (date and time) before the update was downloaded. System Restore does not delete your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs (unless the program was installed after the restore point you selected). System Recovery on the other hand Deletes Everything and sets your system back to when you first purchased it.Try running the check disk utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine. If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs. In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear. In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

If after the check disk utility you are still having problems then you might have to reinstall your operating system.

Inspiron 530 will not start up - CMOS battery will not come out

It sounds to me from reading all of this information you may need to re-install your operating system again and go with Win 7 and not Vista that would be my advice. 3rd party programs always create havoc on some machines. Stay away from that kind of thing and just use your machine as if you just bought it after re-installing the operating system again. You really do not need all that cleaning and just software **** on your machine. Just a good suggestion for the indigestion. John

Desktopagent tray has encountered a problem and

Boot up as normal and go to "Run Box", type in MSCONFIG and then enter. Msconfig will open, when it does, go to the STARTUP tab, navigate down the list until you see that program..Desktopagent, then uncheck the box next to it and disable it. Reboot. Then when you are at desktop, go to control panel and open Add/Remove programs and uninstall that program entirely, or go to the programs directory or Start Menu tab & Un-install it from there. Once that is done Reboot again. All should be good. Msconfig will ask you if you want to make permanent say OK. Now if you want, you may install that application again & know what to do if it mucks up again.
