Defective display panel.

This model of SONY TV uses a Samsung display panel, the problem you have is the panel went bad. SONY was offering an extended warranty to change the panel free, please call SONY to check it out that if they still offer the free replacement.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. LCD correct?

There are 2 types of lines they may be showing, both requiring the replacement of the LCD Panel.

1. Delamination Lines- they are usually multiple vertical lines that do NOT flow from the top to bottom of the screen. Looks look water dripped down or something similar

2. Single/Multiple Vertical lines - This is normally 1 or maybe a few solid vertical lines that travel from Top to bottom. I belive in some cases they may only travel to the screen center.

In both cases, this will always show when the TV is ON. Even if there is no signal being input to the TV. There are other possibilities but these can be the most common. Both require a new panel.

Sounds like T'Con board fault. Contact the authorized service centre for Sony. If this is true, the T'Con board will be available only by the Sony service centre. It sounds as though it could be any of three problems. Firstly, it could be a faulty screen - in which case it's a lost cause since replacement screens can cost more than new TVs. It could be your main (video) board which you could replace if you can find a matching one on eBay. Finally it could be your T-con board, which again can be replaced by finding the same part number on eBay. A plaid screen is not a problem I am familiar with per se, but those are the three reasons why one might have a faulty display. Hope that helps.

Sounds like a back-light inverter fault. Contact the authorized service center. Back-lights and inverter board to Sony LCD panel are built in; and if you wish to do any repair to it, you have to disassemble the panel. It is a skilled work; not a user repairable one. Gopakumar Gopalan Google

When it flashes 8 times it is indicating a possible Audio Protector circuit fault. this circuit is located on the "AU" board. You will probably have to purchase a new AU Board if you were to attempt to fix it yourself! Good Luck! Rich Lilja

I am experiencing exactly the same problem. TV turns on but within 60 seconds the screen goes black and the red standby light blinks six times. Were you able to resolve this problem on your TV?

What is happening is there is an internal "Fault" that is causing the Protection Circuitry , to detect the problem, and attempt to shut down the set. When we keep restarting the set, it may work briefly again, because as soon as it shuts down, the "Faulty" component(s) cool down?, and the "Fault" ostensibly "Clears" so the PSU starts up again, only for the component(s) to heat up, whatever, again and fail, so it shuts down, and if left unattended, this would continue on until the part eventually failed. Any fault that involves the power supply is usually quite serious, and needs a professional, usually, unless one is familiar with servicing current day, televisions.

my professional recommendation, you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an, Approved Service Center. Now, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their "Local" or a, "Head Office" Sony, in your case. Ask them, for a referral to an authorised servicing center, where you ask for a "Quote". Now, when you get the information you want, then you can decide as to repair of replacement.

The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand, also sometimes, there has been a service bulletin in issued and the repair may be subsided or even free. There are many, many, many reasons that display this symptom, one must work through the troubleshooting steps to isolate and identify, the Cause and repair that and any damage done.

I had a similar problem where the screen went to a pink shade periodically. Sony sent me a memory stick, with download instructions, that fit into one of the back ports. The problem has gone away. It was a software correction.
