My sony lcd tv model kdl40ex400 red light blinks
My TV did the same thing. According to Sony the Bulb or lighting mechanism is bad when 6 red lights blink and your TV fails to turn itself on properly. If you have a warranty they'll likely replace the television set as they said "it isn't cost efficient to fix this issue."

How many times do this stand by light blinks at one time switch ON? Count it. These blinks are fault indications. From these number of blinks, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside the TV.

Yes - just be careful with the ribbon cables. You are going to be replacing the LCD portion - behind it is the backlight assembly. Some may come with the entire assembly in one. You may need to do a little research to get a replacement - use Google to find a distributor.

At some point you have to cut your losses, this is the reason I suggest getting an extended warranty with coverage (including the maker) of 3 years, 80 of the 140 sets in our shop are less than 3 years old, if this set had that they would have to fix or replace the set----One reason I choose to answer your question (I do this here for free) is this set ought to have a error buffer, when set fails it will count the event and that also indicates where the issue is.Most of the Sony sets for the last decade with set off and using the Sony remote: Display, 5, vol down, and POWER will if set comes on bring up a display with a number of shortened items listed----they should all if the set has this be a zero. Any with a number indicates a issue and the number indicates the number of times this event has happened.
Ir sensor not working
Check battery on your remote. If you have opened the set and know that the sensor is not working, check whether it is getting voltage at one pin. If it does, you can replace sensor and try.
Picture is negative image
If I understand what you mean, is it that the picture is there but very dark? if so it sounds like a problem with your backlight or inverter. I believe either one of these parts failing would produce the problem you have described.
