HI,Yes for most refrigerator you do have wait because the oils come out of the compressor so the oil must settle back down. But some refrigerators you do not have to wait if laid on their side, if it was new in box it will say on box "lay this side down" if not better safe then sorry.

Ice maker stopped making ice and I think it may be

Hi, first check to make sure the water hose going to the ice maker is not crimped or the valve is not off. Second make sure the hose is not frozen on the end...the ice would plug up the water flow...
Lastly I would check out the level arm and make sure it is operating correctly. There should be a limit switch that it bumps into when the tray is full, double check to make sure this is functioning correctly.
Try lifting the arm up and down several times to see if it won't start working again. If not it may be the small motor that drives the unit that's bad. That would not be unusual, those motors (though small) are of a very specific type and aren't interchangeable. You would probably do better just to replace that whole part of the unit rather than trying to just replace the motor.

I have a jenn air

Hi. This is essentially going to be an issue that concerns the water valve inlet assembly. This is a dual inlet assembly that serves both the dispenser and ice maker unit. One side of the valve may be working properly, but the other side could be mechanically or electronically damaged.

First, you will need to rule out any standard issues that will cause this. Check the internal, and external feed lines for any obstructions. Make sure that the internal lines are not frozen, or kinked. If the lines check out ok, move on to the water filter(if equipped). In most units, there will be a filter, present. These devices are set to operate on a particular time frame. If their filtering limit is met, the filter will stop filtering water, thus, not allowing the fluid to flow, at all. Make sure that the filter is up to date. If you have verified that the filter is ok, move on to the water inlet valve assembly.

Inlet inspection procedure:

The water inlet valve is located behind your refrigerator. Find the water supply line coming into the valve and turn it off at the source (typically under the sink). Disconnect the supply line. Remove the screws that secure the inlet valve in place.

The water inlet valve is connected by two wires. Label the wire placement on the water inlet valve before disconnecting the wires. The wires are connected to the terminals with slip on connectors

Firmly pull the connectors off of the terminals (do not pull on the wire). You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove the connectors. Inspect the connectors and the terminals for corrosion. If the connectors are corroded they should be replaced.

Inspect the filter screen where the supply line connects. Remove any debris or deposits that may have built up using a toothbrush, or warm running water. If you cannot clear the clog, it will be necessary to replace the valve (the filter is not removable on most inlet valves).

Test the water inlet valve for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X100 (if available, otherwise use the nearest ohm setting). Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should display a reading of 200 to 500 ohms. Close inspection of the inlet valve and especially the coil may reveal the exact ohm resistance rating to test for. If the water inlet valve does not pass this test, it should be replaced.

I have a Jenn Air French Door Bottom Freezer.

Good day,
The wire must be inserted properly, and when in the down position is in the ice making mode. As the cycle is initiated to harvest it will go up and then when the harvest is complete.
It is a one piece wire, so I don't understand how part of it could be missing.
However, if it's in the down position you can follow the troubleshooting guide below. It would be smart to first take the ice maker into an appliance parts house, and fitted with a new wire. It's a simple proccess.

First step is to take a small paper cup of water and fill the cavity until it is near full. With the ice maker turned on, close freezer door and wait 3 hours to see if it harvests. If not, the ice maker is bad, and must be replaced. If the cubes harvest then.......
Three possibilities.
1. The water supply from the house is not delivering water to the water valve. Shut off the house at the meter, disconnect the line going to the water valve, and with the line pointed into a bucket, have someone turn the valve back on for a 15 second count. The water should come out smartly. If not, the line and it's fittings will have to be replaced.
2. The fill tube from the back of the machine that feeds water into the back of the ice maker is frozen up. You will have to remove the ice maker to visually inspect that tube. If blocked, it needs to be defrosted, but use caution. Too much heat too fast will start to melt plastic and vinyl parts you don't want melted.
If this is the case, then once cleaned out, you will have to change the water valve located in the back bottom rear of the machine because it is leaking during the off cycle.
3. If everything checks O.K. up to this point, you will have to purchase and install a new water valve, and install it.
P.S. Under very rare occasions the electric circuity in the ice maker will fail to send a signal to the water valve. Although rare, it can happen, in which case the best option is to replace the ice maker and water valve.

I have the freezer set at 3. There is ice forming

Frost buildup on food and ice around the door is due to warm air infiltration. This sounds like a door closure problem. Be sure that nothing is interfering with the drawer as it closes. Be sure to open the upper door and look down at the drawer top to see that the gasket is hitting the steel frame of the cabinet. Look all the way around the entire drawer front checking the seal.
Also open the drawer and hold it as it closes, so that if there is any food product binding it you will see it get hung open.
Good luck.

It sounds like a defrost system problem. A bad timer, heater or thermostat can cause frost to build up on the coils and block air flow to the refrig side. Check out ACMEHowTo.com for troubleshooting the defroster problem
