Sounds like a problem I had with a Polaroid t.v. Take the cover off the back and look for capactors that are buldging on the top. The top should be slightly concave. If they are convex at all, you can buy new one at Radio Shack and replace them for under $5.00
Does the buttons on the front of the tv still have function? If the do, It may be the IR sensor going out on your tv, and causing the remote not to work.

The tv is not detecting signal from the input. Check your cables at the input. If you have any thing like dvd/cd which can give you a signal connect it to tv and check for a picture. Mostly a tv has two different in puts a a/v and a rf, confirm which one is not give you a picture.
