Whirlpool AD70USR0 Dehumidfier - Our basement is

If it is very cold some of these consumer units will not turn on the compressor. If the unit suddenly stopped working and the temperature is room temperature I would guess a refrigeration issue- either a leak or bad compressor. Make sure the "full bucket" indicator light is not on- the condensate bin may not be plugged into the unit properly.

What is the drain size to run in copper for Zenith

Fire Hazard? How can a rubber hose that drains water, be a fire hazard? This inspector is jerking you around. Since there are no copper fitting that will fit the connector, use a flexible stainless steel water water supply hose, that's normally used on an automatic washer. You'll wind up with 2 female ends, but that won't matter. Be sure there is a rubber washer in the end you connect to the unit's hose connection and only tighten it enough that it won't leak. If you over tighten it, it will crack or brake the plastic male connector.

Just for my own information, why is a building inspector necessary for the installation and approval of a portable dehumidifier? You can respond bu clicking on the Comment link. Thanks

What size copper drain line do I need to run for a

That's got to be the dumbest thing I have heard today. This is a portable unit and is not equipped to have a copper line connected the the continuous drain. Only a 48' long garden hose is necessary to drain to a floor drain. Now, if you're trying to drain some other way. Keep in find that this model does not have a pump. It relies strictly on gravity to drain. In other words it will NOT drain UP.

Hope this helps and thanks for choosing FixYa.

My dehumidifier fan runs, and

Hi,
A dehumidifier works by pulling the warm air over a very cold coil which causes the water in the air to stick to the coil...
The fan can be running, but if the compressor is not working properly to make the coil cold then the water will not condense on the coil and no water will be removed from the air...

Now... the compressor may not be working because of a bad relay in the circuit board...
or the compressor capacitor went bad and the compressor will not start...
or because the compressor just plain went bad and will not run...

The bad part is that two out of the three probable causes will cost you more to fix then the unit is worth...
The capacitor is the only relatively economically feasible thing that can be fixed...and if you cannot troubleshoot that and fix it your self it also will cost too much to have repaired by a tech.

There are millions of these small units made every year and they produce them so cheaply in foreign countries that they have become "disposable".

Unfortunately, my recommendation would be to purchase a new unit, unless you can troubleshoot it your self and if it is the capacitor fix it yourself.
