My machine isn't quite picking up the bobbin

It definitely sounds like tension adjustments,m make sure the top tension is about 4 or 5, you should only just about be able to pull the bottom thread through with some resistence, if it is too tight slacken the screw about a quarter of a turn anti clockwise and test sew and keep doing that until you get it right.

Goes by itself and doesn't stop until it's turned off.

Undo the foot control and see if you have a little square thing in there call a suppressor, if you have then take it out and discard it

Top thread does not engage bobbin thread

Check the needle to be sure it is not bent or mis-installed. The flat side of the needle shank faces to the back to the machine.

If this does not work, open the manual and wind and install the bobbin, then thread the machine - using the written instructions as the pictures, although helpful, can mislead.

Continue by lowering and raising the threaded needle (hold on to the end of the thread) to bring up the bobbin thread.

Pull both threads under the presser foot and to the back of the machine.

Hold onto the threads and lower the needle into the fabric and then use the power pedal to begin sewing.

If the top and bottom thread still do not form a stitch, the machine needs to go into the shop for service as the alignment needs to be adjusted.

Suddenly, the tension is not right. have tried

there should be a dial on the front with numbers on it normal tension would be a 3 on the dial for light or medium fabric like cottons or light denim. Also the top of the machine on the left over the needle should have a round post that is spring loaded it affects tension to the feed dog if you push it down the tension will be tight, release it some by the small circular piece around the post and it will loosen

When I go to wind the bobbin the needle still

Take it to repair shop, getting to the problem requires taking the shell cover off the machine, difficult to do, then fixing the problem might be electronic in nature.

Bobbin thread won't catch with needle thread

check that the needle is in the right way round i.e. with cut out on the needle facing into the machine. if this is fine then check that as the needle comes back up from the lowest point that it goes to, that the point on the bobbin case passes just above the hole in the needle, i.e. in the middle of the cut out.(if not it needs re timing) if threaded a small loop should appear at this point for the bottom bobbin to catch if not slacken the top thread and try again.

Using Singer 7470 for the first time, and my

1. Take bobbin out and re-insert and thread.
If that dosen't work, try:
2. Take bobbin out and bobbin case, clean area and re-insert bobbin case and bobbin.
If that dosen't work, try:
3. Re-thread the top thread that goes to the needle. (Sometimes the thread dosen't hook to the "Thread take-up"(page 6 on manual). It pulls the bobbin thread and the bobbing becomes loose inside the bobbin case.
If that dosen't work, try:
4. Wind a new bobbin (Sometimes a bobbin might wind thread to lose) Do not wind thread to the edge of bobbin.
If that dosen't work, you should take it in to be serviced...Somenthing might become loose that only a technitian can correct.
Also check manual for troubleshooting.
Good luck.....

Needle is moving when bobbin is winding & lights are flashing

Check the clutch at the knob on the right side of the machine, where you tighten it to sew & loosen it to wind a bobbin. It could be very loose and when you start to wind a bobbin, it tightens itself up.

Machine Threading

Sorry Barbara but it is impossible to give you a solution on here, there could be any amount of reasons why your machine will not sew, it needs looking at by a sewing machine tech or someone with a similiar machine.
Only other thing I can suggest, if it is a new machine you should have a user manual, very carefully and slowly start at the front of the manual and work carefully through everything step by step.
Best of luck
