Purchased the sytem about one month ago, set it up (easy as), downloaded files off main computer, loaded other stuff on it, recovered from it over the past couple of weeks, went to use it the other day, will not connect.
Tried all the usual tips and help as mentioned on several sites - nothing. Unit is making an audible crackle sound not heard before on startup and disk is rotating.
Through it away or send it back to dealer?
Use the cable suplied with the disk -- connect to two USB ports to give it enough power

my external hard drive is not recognized , it was before but not it is not, it keeps saying a device is unknown, i tried to restore but it did not work
Hello, Did you try to use this drive on another computer? Did you have the same problem? Did you try using a different cable? I would try these things first in order to determine if the problem is with the drive or with the computer. Good Luck! Dr. Know

The sensors won't align - one is blinking green and the other is steady amber - the wall pad if held down will close the door, but you cannot just tap it or the remotes won't close it at all. We were hoping to just disconnect the wires to the sensors, but it still won't close all the way unless we hold the wall device until the door is completely shut. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The sensors are safety features so the door won't close on someone. When you hold the wall button down it's over riding the sensors, therefore it works when you hold down the button but will not work when you tap it or use the remote. Line up the photo cells so they stop blinking. If they're blinking they think something is in the way...hence not closing. If you can't get them to line up and stop blinking one may be defective. Contact the manufacturer and see if you can purchase a replacement set. They usually aren't too expensive, maybe $20/$40.

My boss bought a FreeAgent Go to backup his laptop information. He plugged it in and it worked fine. He transfered a few files over, but now when I plug it in, it says it is an unknown device. I took it home over the weekend and plugged it into my PC and I could open everything fine. But no matter how many times I restart this laptop I can't get it to work. Also, when I plug it into the computer it spins and the light comes on, but shortly after everything shuts down. When I plug it into the USB hub he has the hard drive makes a high pitch clicking/beeping noise (really annoying). I am not sure what to do. I have contacted Seagate, but they weren't any help. Any ideas would be great!
Tracy
The beeping means that not enough power is being supplied to the device, and as a result, the disc will not spin up (not recognized). I suspect that the reason he was able to once make it work is perhaps he has more USB devices plugged in now...therefore, not enough power to go around. Or perhaps he has swapped cables?? I had this exact same issue when I bought a new cable for my Freeagent Go. I wanted a longer cable, but for whatever reason the cable itself didn't supply enough power; I got that ugly sounding beep (could have been a bad cable I suppose). When I plugged the drive in using my old cable, it worked flawlessly. I would first ask him if he has been plugging in more devices recently. Then I'd get a compatible USB cable that has an extra power connection (when he plugs it in, he'll have to plug into 2 USB ports).
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I have had a seagate external HD (desktop 250GB) for 6 months and it was working fine up unitil a few days ago, it will now not power up. I have tried on several different computers and power sources but without success. Unfortunately I have data on the drive which is not backed up elsewhere and want to access this data. I am waiting to be able to contact seagate over a warranty repair, apparently they are only contactable from NZ in Beijing time??? But if I send it to seagate, I believe it is likely the data will be lost so I think it maybe better to forgo the warranty and attempt data recovery locally. Any ideas on who would be best to attempt this?
I am based in Wellington NZ.
Thanks

When I plug in hard drive, the light on the side comes on, I can hear it running, but then it does nothing. I have had the hard drive for 2 years, and this is the first problem I have had. I have all my photos on it. HELP PLEASE!!!
It sounds like your hard drive is all locked up my friend. Unplug it now to prevent further damage.
Don't worry any many cases you can have the data retrieved from your hard drive by using this online company that I highly recommend:

i have recently got a seagate ext hard drive, it is definately working but my PS3 will not recognise it. any ideaa?
I'm in the understanding that a PC will not format anything over 32GB. BUT I have a solution that I know works because I have used it to change the format of my Seagate 320GB Free Agent Go to FAT32. On your PC download a program called Swissknife. It is a free program and can be found with Google. The only thing to then make sure is that you have nothing on the drive you are going to format, because once you start formatting, anything on that drive will be deleted.

Seagate Freeagent Go not recognized as an identifiable USB device.
I recently traveled from NY to FL and grabbed my Freeagent and my old laptop. When I connected it to the laptop (with USB 1.0) it began to detect the drive and even noted that a Freeagent Go was detected, but I got a USB error due to lack of power. I bought a powered hub but after that the drive would click and flash but was not recognized. No drivers are needed but Windows XP tried to search for drivers for this now unidentified device plugged into the USB port. When I got home I plugged the drive into my newly purchased Vista machine. Previously the drive worked flawlessly and now it is not detected as an identified device and the Seagate program does not know that it is present. The drive will spin up and the lights will flash and XP asks for drivers for an unknown device. Eventually the drive will stop spinning and flashing and XP will attempt to identify it again. I am using the supplied cable.
Racking my brain for another possibility, in my travels the disk was in the same carry-on as a very small magnetic mount XM radio antenna (but not next to each other). so it may have been exposed to magnetism. I'm not sure if attempting to run the drive on the old laptop did it or the magnet did it, but the old laptop did initially recognize it as a Freeagent Go drive (message popped up indicating that the Freeagent Go was found) before the USB power surge message came up.
Any ideas? It isn't even an issue of reformatting since my computers do not even know what is connected to the USB port in the first place.
Thanks!
I plugged mine's directly through the back of my computer instead of the hub in the front and it's working fine.

Hello,
I have a lot of Error (2013) when I save whith Seagate Manager.
What is the problem ?
Baco73
Cause: File in history folder is corrupted or unmovable.
Solution: If an individual file is identified with the error, delete the affected file from x:\Seagate Backup\History folder on the external drive. If an individual file is not identified then it may be necessary to run Windows error checking on the external drive or delete the x:\Seagate Backup\History folder and run a fresh backup, if it can not be repaired.
