Cant dectect the player
1) Hold the power button (slider) in the on position for about 15-20 seconds to force the player to turn off, if it's already on.
2) Hold the menu button down and simultaneously hold the power button (slider) to the on position.
3) Do not let go when the device turns on. You will then get a screen message in black and white that reads (with a typo):
WARRING !!!
NAND FLASH MEMORY INITIALIZE......
"WARRING !!!" will appear in red (and probably should read "WARNING". You will have the options of "No" and "Yes".
4) Choose "Yes" to re-format your device.
Download ITUNES to a regular MP3 player.
First off...I'm sorry. This isn't going to be super-simple or automated.
The Insignia MP3 players play MP3 and WMA audio files only (okay...and audio books). If you have a pretty nice collection of unprotected music files that you have purchased from iTunes, then you'll be able to do this conversion.
The Insignia player will not sync with iTunes...the program and the player are not compatable. You do not need to use Windows Media Player to load music on your Insignia player.
Here's the process:
Set your Insignia player to Mass Storage or "File & Folder". This makes it look like another drive to the computer.
Open iTunes.
Navigate to the Options or Preferences area (it's different depending on whether you use a Mac or a PC), select the BURN tab and set the file format to MP3 and the quality rating you desire (I suggest either 128kb or 192kb).
Select the songs you want to put on your player.
Tell iTunes to "Conver to MP3" the songs you have selected.
Once these files are copied as MP3s, Navigate to the iTunes folder (should be in My Documents/My Music/iTunes). I reccommend placing a shortcut to your iTunes folder on your desktop for future use.
Drag and Drop your music files to your Insignia player.
You're good to go. Unplug the Insignia player and enjoy!
I lost my software cd
You can use Windows Explorer to transfer files to your insignia sport player. First, in the settings on your player, go to Settings, USB Mode, Connection Type and select File & Folder. Then, plug your player in to your USB cable. Windows XP should automatically find your player and make a new drive letter in Windows Explorer. Simply drag and drop your mp3 files from your c drive to the new drive for your player. You'll notice that when you delete the files on your new drive for your player that it doesnt remove them from your player. You'll need to use your player (settings, system, erase internal) to erase internal (and external), but after that when you add new files, they will be added to the player when it does the profiling after you disconnect the USB cable.

Forgot how to use my Insignia MP3 player.
Power up:
If the player is laying flat with the screen facing left, you will see a large circle button and two buttons above the circle. The button on left above the circle is the power button.
To start playing music:
Press the button in the middle of the large circle with a small triangle facing the right (the play button)
To stop music:
Pressing the same button mentioned above will pause the music while pressing the power button I first mentioned will turn off the unit completely and stop the music as well.
Help!
i have the same problem. how do i solve it.
This thing is messed up
after player connected, try to open it in "My computer", and it must show as a removable drive, just re-format it windows and see how much free place it has then
Sync problem
Try reformatting the player as FAT to erase the storage memory. Use the PC to do this and not the internal "formatting" option.
Best of luck!
How do i get music from a mac?
I uploaded one song from my mac, but when I tried to put a CD on, the mp3 got messed up so I reset the mp3 player, and then couldn't put music on anymore now matter what I do, so I have a blank Insignia :(.
INSIGNIA MP3 PLAYER
I had this problem also and I think I figured it out because now my music will play. I took the songs I had from limewire, highlighted them all and clicked "save as", opened it with windows media player and on wmp I took my playlist and named it on there....first I synched the songs under "sync" and they would upload on my player but they would NOT play. I got the same stupid error message. So after they were uploaded onto my mp3 player, i dragged all of the songs onto the right side to make a sync list AGAIN and clicked start sync, all of the files said "already on device" so I kind of got mad thinking it still didn't work...when I unplugged it and tried to play the song, they ACTUALLY PLAYED. I fought with this for so long and contemplated about throwing the stupid thing down the toilet but for whatever reason, synching it in two different ways in that order, it worked and it stopped saying "error:can't open this file"...hope this works for you and anyone else having this problem because I know how frustrating this got for me. hope this helps. Good luck!!!
