Sounds like you do got damage, one would assume it would be the backlight causeing htis issue but your saying its a patch so thus its the liquid crystail display that might have been effected by pressure or some other object laying against the screen for a long period, maybe during a move? Maybe the defect just started showing up? I would have a local repair shop make the final determination on this because I do not have photos of this issue,

Tv power supply board have problems.Tries websites like shopjimmy.com,Ebay,com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Look at the remote button for 'ASPECT', 'FORMAT', 'ZOOM' to adjust it to what you want. It sounds like it is in ZOOM mode.

Well unfortunately these day I find more and more in my shop, that many repairs are simply uneconomic. With the cheap initial buy prices, often a new unit, will cost only slightly more than a repair, plus the fact, one has a new warranty, new, components, and a new machine. As with any electronic device, once
"Stressed" by a component failure, many many units fail again within the next year anyway according to figures. So unless it is a relatively inexpensive repair, then my professional opinion is that a replacement unit, would be a better place to spend the repair monies.
Your problem, may well be a switchmode power supply problem, the thing to do, is contact Sanyo's head office, and ask for a referral to a local authorised service center, then take the unit to them, and ask for a "Quote" as to the cost of repair, this way you can make an informed decision as to repair or replace.

When this happened to me, I unplugged and waited 10 seconds and then replugged...it worked. Hope this helps.

Sanyo is cheaply made TV, but then again, most LCD TV last about 2~3 years before breaking down.
You need to check out the power supply and the inverter board.

just go to sanyo service center to buy a new remote control, to fix your problem

Thats technology at its finest. Even with component cables the picture will look horrible.

But, if you are using standard AV cables, try upgrading to component. You may try switching your tv mode to 4x3 instead of 16x9

Your backlight circuit might be fried if it's not a CRT (big clunky picture tube). The backlight circuit generates the most heat in an LCD or plasma TV and allows you to see the pixels being generated on top of it. Sometimes these problems can be fixed, but about 75% of them are just biffed into the garbage and are replaced.

Your reported symptoms are odd in that most failures are related to the primary power supply but that takes down both audio and video.
The backlight is obviously working (white screen) but it is no longer receiving any video information and this points to a failure of the logic (or the output of the power supply that services logic) used to control pixels on the screen. Some screens have the majority of the control ICs actually mounted on the LCD assembly and because of very close pin distances used on dense ICs, they are often not replaceable by hand since they were installed by robotics.
I would first suspect (and hope for) the logic voltage output of the power supply to be the culprit.
If any of you posters have had a repair done and received any kind of a detailed report (you should), would you be kind enough to post it back as a comment to this original message?

It seems like Bad Vertical IC.You need to Re-Solder all small IC's that are mounted to the Heat Sink.

You could Open the TV and try to Fix this. I am always here to Guide you.You need to Keep the TV unplugged and make sure to take all the Precautions.

Radio shack and others sell a extention box/ switch that will bring vetually extend the connections in the rear. That will ease the frustration. the switch will switch game and DVD too. go shopping

Broken screen,need to be replaced if available to repair it will cost more than a new 32" lcd.

When it does this, does the Tv still say on (i.e not in standby) and do you have sound? If you do have sound and tv is out of standby, your invertor is suspect. What type of tv is it? LCD or Plasma
