Check the BIOS to see if it detects the hard disk

why not. call ur nearest delear or service centre for replacement. it is risky to change on ur own.

Your CMOS battery is going out. Replace it before you lose the rest of your cmos settings.

If you have an over heating issue then wasting ur time loading any operating is just that a waste. No u can not load an OS from an ipod. u have to load it from an external CDROM. Some of the newer mini's will boot from a flash drive but then you have to make the flash drive a "bootable device" not something a novice user wants to mess with. If u want to tare it down this far you can check the heatsink is firmly on the cpu. Make sure the exhaust fan is even working too. I wouldnt put alot of time or money in that evo with the prices of laptops being pretty reachable right now.

You can try to power drain the battery or remoive the battery and try to check if you will be able to turn it back on. If still have the same issue what i suggest is to contact Compact and check if you still have a warranty for the laptop to be sent to the repair center free of charge

I had the same problem after first encountering Avira's inability to update new signatures. I downloaded a new version from CNET avira_antivir_personal_en.exe and executed it on top of the existing program.
It started and asked whether to repair or remove. I went for repair, and it continued posting an error. That did not work.
I executed the download again and asked to remove, which it did most thoroughly.
Then executed the same file again and it allowed me install avira without problem and naturally the missing file ccplg.xml was there.

Turn it all the off. Then pull the hard drive out and put it back in again. Now, put your system disk (Win XP?) into the drive and turn the laptop on. It should do something else now. I have had this happen on several laptops I have rebuilt and it takes patience to get them started sometimes.... I have managed to load XP onto all of them eventually!

After reading your issue,i think there is problem with your RAM,once you change your RAM an it will be fine
