1. for what you describe could be the sound card cable from the DVD or CD ROM
not sure without a physical look at the cable. there should be a black connector either at the
top corner of the mother board or by the pci slots that the connector is placed.
If you have a sound card mounted in a PCI slot then there is a connector on that board
for this cable.

it should move / ask for the next cd with in a 15 min. And or you should be seeing some sort of file movement.

Is sound like it's not likeing the new drive. It might be to big for that system.

Your bios may need to be flashed so your motherboard with recognize the ram. It also may be fixed by adjusting the speed of the ram in your bios settings. Be carefull and read about doing both of these procedured in your mainboard manual( should be able to get a manual from the compaq site if you do not have one).You can mess up your computer real good if things are set or flashed wrong. yes you can use 2GB with the same type and specifications.

Try going into safe mode (VGA mode) and see if this works. If you cannot go into safe mode you may have a problem with your video card. Also if you set your resolution too high for the monitor, you will get this problem. If you have another computer and remote desktop is enabled on your problem PC try to Remote Desktop in from the working comptuer and change the resolution settings to a lower setting on the problem computer.

This normally means that the computer is in standby mode all you need to do is press the power button. If this does not work then hold the power button in for about 10 seconds until the computer turns off then wait a further 10 seconds and turn back on and boot normally.

Please let me know it this works and please rate me. Once you booted normally set the power options within control panel not to go into standby.

Hi Sapphire9, The monitor that gives the ?out of range? error is telling you that it cannot work at the resolution/color setting the computers video card is set for. What you need to do is set the computers video cards screen resolution to something generic like 1024 X 768 first (Start, settings control panel, click on the display icon, click on settings tab on box that appears, screen resolution slider bar is in the lower left corner) then switch the monitors. Appears that recovery disk #2 is bogus. U can try to get a new set from HP (fat chance!) or you can do a reload from a normal, retail OS disk.

Hello Most laptop or PCs, has a combination keyboard pressing keys, that invoque the restore routine. usually F11 or F10. others has DVD, check and see what you have of these two. in the first one, you recover from a disk partition the whole OS.

Its all about go to HP page, and bios updates, the instructions are there too! but be aware you have to be more specific on model, and BIOS dates.
