Sony STR-DE898 Receiver Questions & Answers
How to hard reset a sony str-DE898
I couldn't find anything about a Lock Code in the manual but here's the general setting-reset procedure:
Turn OFF the receiver
Hold down the I/0 for 5 seconds - "PUSH ENTER" appears on the display
Press ENTER
Is there a way to reset the STR DE898/B 7.1 channel Receiver
Reset can mean many things... Input/ output/surround/ or is it saying "Protect" on the display?
If that's the case, unplug, wait a minute, plug it back in and turn on. If it still say's Protect, disconnect the speaker wires and test again. Chances are you have a shorted wire or speaker. If you need something different, post a reply and I will help you further. Hope this helps
I have to connect the RCA PLUG on a Center Speaker
A possible solution (but not the best) is to use a single RCA to RCA cable, however you should cut one end of the cable before the remaining RCA plug. Then you separe the wires, twist each of them and hook on your Sony receiver. A RCA cable is made of two wires or poles. I believe this will work. Good Luck.

Only 2ch sound on sony strde898
I understand that you have tried connecting different audio source to the Receiver as some of the audio source will output only 2 channel audio.
I hope you have tried changing the Input mode and Input selector to get the surround sound.
Please disconnect the speakers with the receiver and clean the edges of receiver and speaker cables using solution like alcohol and try.
If the issue persists, please interchange the rear speakers with front speakers and vice versa and check if audio is coming to make sure that the speakers are working fine.
If the audio comes after replacing the speakers but not from surround speakers, the receiver requires service.
Connecting pc audio to str-de898
You're close. PHONO is NEVER the place to send Line Level signals. It is for the small output produced by a phono cartridge only. Google RIAA equalization to see why it sounds so bad when connected that way.
That you get sound through Phono at least proves your PC is producing an output. Now we have to figure out why your RECEIVER doesn't sense the program where it should be connected.
If you have another analog audio source that works on the receiver, temporarily connect the PC audio there to see how it sounds. Then think about why it doesn't work in MD/TAPE, SA-CD/CD, TV/SAT, DVD, or either Video IN. Any of those should work.
No power
OK, No +7 Volt.
It means Stand-by Transformer (T902) is bad / open and you need to replace it.
Its part number is as follows...
1-437-312-11 TRANSFORMER, POWER
Available in
Part Store.
Below is an image of 'Standby Power PCB' and T902 is marked with red.
Good Luck.
No sound
Have you got the speakers on as in the AorB speakers button? It should be located on the front of the amp.
Sony de898 no sound
Could be an internal fuse blown but most later electronics use a special kind of resistor called a varistor.
These devices are across the AC line and do nothing until the voltage difference between the two lines, hot & neutral, exceeds a certain voltage; this is typically ~200 volts for 120 service as in the US and higher for 220 service on most of the planet.
They are disc shaped, will be from 4-5mm (~ 3/8") to as much as 25mm (~1") in diameter and if ever zapped, they are charred and with chunks missing.
When their design voltage is exceeded, their resistance drops from near infinite to a few Ohms which then causes the fuse to blow.
You can replace the fuse and choose not to replace the varistor but then you will not longer have even that minimal protection against spikes.
For folks in lightning-prone areas, the installation of a 'whole-house' surge suppressor is highly desirable, will cost ~$250 US and have an insurance policy against losses of $10-$25,000 US in case you still lose devices protected.

My Sony model # MHC-V11 MAKES NO SOUND everything seems to operate but i cant get no sound from it
Troubleshoot this issue. Here are some steps you can follow:
Check Speaker Connections:
Ensure that the rear surround speakers are properly connected to the Audio/Video (A/V) receiver.
If applicable to your model, verify that the A/B speaker selector is set correctly. If the speakers are connected to the A speaker connection, the selector must be set to the A position.
Test Tone Operation:
Perform a test tone operation to check if the speakers are functioning correctly.
Increase the rear speaker volume or adjust the surround speaker settings to the maximum level.
Speaker Size Settings:
Try selecting a different size (small or large) for the rear surround speakers in the menu.
Surround Sound Mode:
Verify that the A/V receiver is set to a surround sound mode.
For Dolby ProLogic surround sound, ensure that the center-channel mode is set to NORMAL or WIDE.
If your source is a DVD or Blu-ray Disc player, check that surround sound is enabled in the player's menu.
The audio being received must be multi-channel.
Different Surround Sound Mode:
Try setting the A/V receiver to a different surround sound mode.
Source Content:
Verify that the source you are playing is encoded in surround sound.
Note that during periods of mainly dialog, most of the sound may come from the center speaker only, with audio coming out of the rear speakers when there is background or ambient noise.
Factory Reset:
Reset the unit back to factory default settings (consult your operating instructions for model-specific steps).
If applicable, follow the steps for calibrating the appropriate settings automatically after connecting the calibration microphone device.
Speaker Wires and Replacement:
Check and replace the speaker wires if necessary.
Consider connecting a different pair of speakers to see if the issue persists.
If you've tried these steps and the problem remains unresolved, I recommend seeking professional service.
