Have a look at the manual for the 2050, maybe it's similar to your machine?

try some wd-40 or silicon spray & let it set for a couple of hours & gently try to turn the dial, but don't force it or it could brake..& if it doesn't loosen up after a couple of hours, spray it again & wait again & try it then

I looked at your machine accessories online and I think that you have a low shank, so, I think that a Singer or Brother would fit your machine just fine. JoAnn's may have one in there Viking gallery. And if it does not fit at least you can return it. Other than that, you can always call Riccar and see if they have one.

It sounds to me like something may have been accidently changed. Double check bobbin is clean and in correct position. Also see if there is a thread caught in one of the tension guides, by pulling a thread carefully through the machine towards the needle.
Rather than breaking needles, test the tension by putting foot down and pulling on thread by hand , if its too easy to pull through something is causing the tension to be too loose

In many cases, breaking thread is caused by the upper tension being too tight, so that's something to check.

Another thing is to change your needle. If it's at all bent it can break the thread.

Third thing is to make sure you're using new, high quality thread. Older thread breaks more easily, especially if it's been in the sun.

Finally, clean and oil the machine. A bit of lint in the bobbin area can do all kinds of havoc.
