I have presario v6500 Notebook

you have gone backwards in operating system and it is possible that the driver for the notebook is not compatible for win xp as win xp is no longer being supported by microsoft it is better to stay on vista or install win 7 as all downloads are now orientated to the later operation systems

Pioneer DVD R/RW drive DVR-K17LA not reading

Normally no drivers are needed for CD drives other than the ones built into Windows. It might be a dirty lens that is causing the trouble. When the tray opens on a laptop CD drive the lens is exposed and can get touched or exposed to dirt. Try gently cleaning it with a cotton swab to brush off the lens. If the problem continues, the laser may have worn out and is too weak to read now. You can find replacement drives online, or use a USB plug-in external drive.

My pioneer laptop dvd rw dvr k16 ra has the same

gustav94I have the same dvd player and had the same problem, I just couldn't read my data cds and it was so frustrating windows kept telling me the cds with data were blank, i searched thoroughly over the net for an answer but most involved registry mods or flashing the firmware which could bog your dvd for life.
I was about to give up and get a hammer and whack the computer when i decided to get a dry cotton bud and gently wipe the laser lens of the dvd player, and guess what?
my good old data cds were being read!!!
kudos to classics.
