ok... sorry to tell you but, there is a problem with the capacitors in the psu... the long startup is because the "backlight" requires the capacitors to charge and they cant do so in a timely manor.
in order to fix it, pop it apart ant look at the thingys that look like bateries, if the top is poofing out, then get the info off of the side of the cap and look online for one, they cost pennies on the dollar...
i have this problem alot in my business.... hope this helped you, if not, please feel free to reply to this and tell me in a mo-ron..
I am trying to attach
Actually your motherboard supports just fine every monitor there is, only that the onboard video chip (915G) is very weak so your video capabilities will be limited.
So yes, the best option would be to get a decent separate video card, one like

Hi..my sony model sdm-hs93 lcd monitor flutters
Hello,
I think the problem with your monitor is that, the picture board on the monitor is malfunctioning that is why it keeps going blank after a minute.
What you need to do is to replace the picture board on your LCD monitor, replacing the picture board will solve the problem, because the picture board on the monitor at the moment is bad and will need to be replace.
Replace the picture board and you will see that the problem will not repeat itself again.
Take care.
My monitor picture comes on for like a second,
b18dragon, Power supply inside unit will need to be fixed if Sony warranty not valid. SMPS detects fault condition and goes into shutdown mode. Can't be fixed w/software. Do some reading (RESEARCH) about "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" , "CCFL inverter supplys" , "switch-mode-power-supplys" to understand your monitors problem. Also watch some video clips at YOUTUBE on "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair". Then you will be able to make decision to do a DIY repair or contract out the work having unit REFURBED or repaired locally. Does Sony have a cash+dead unit swapout program for monitors that are "JUST" 1 to 10 months past warranty?? You have a few options, the question is "what will you do?" Try some of these other sites for information.

I have a 5-year old Sony 19-LCD monitor that
smyko, Sounds like a tired out old "switch-mode-power-supply"/ "inverter CCFL power-supply!!! May require unit to be REFURBISHED with upgraded power suppllies and if the LCD screen had been displaying an increasingly dimmer screen, it may also need new "cold cathode-fluorescent lamps" installed. A technician who knows all about LCD monitors and their backlight "ELECTRONIC BALLAST" circuits will need to evaluate it. Check with sony and find out if you can do a "cash+old unit swapout for a factory rebuilt (refurb) same model type. Before you do any of that have a look at youtube for longer video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair" just FYI. You will then know and understand what is on the "OTHER SIDE" of what you been looking at for 5yrs!!! Yes, they are trying to experiment with WHITE led arrays that won"t fail for 10 years. Remember lcd Panels last 8 - 12 yrs. Hope this helps. Bye for now. 12fixlouie
Sony hs93 screen doesn't come on unless I hit the
First, check for properly connected cables. Disconnect and then re-connect to ensure quality signal path. Use a known-good cable to test. If no joy, turn off computer and remove video card, then re-install it. Sometimes, after long periods, the contacts on the card can become oxidized and have intermittent contact. This will also give you the chance to check for large amounts of dust settling on the components--dust, combined with humidity in the air, can play havoc on computer cards. If still no joy, then the processor board in the monitor might well be defective. Power, signal/resolution decoding is all handled by IC chips. I like to start simple and move to more complicated(i.e. expensive) problems. How old is the monitor? If under warranty, replace it. If not, a repair facility or replacement is your next move.---Rick
My monitor picture comes on perfectly than goes on and off
I flashes brightly over and over? Sounds like the Power Supply is gone or on the way out. This is caused by the Power Switch Transistor being too loosly clamped to heatsink allowing it to become too hot, or one of the capacitors responsible for filtering or frequency of oscillation is drying up and changing value. A good tech can fix either. Most likely the filter cap and AC (60hz) is getting thru. This is a $3.00 part
Or the inverter in the LCD is biting the bullet. If you turn down the brightness, does it stop or do it less often? THAT would be the invverter. Inverters take 5, 12 or 24v from the mainboard and run the itty-***** pencil-sized florescent lamps that light up your screen. Lamps are $8.00 and inverters can be $50-80, but ebay has them for alot less
Hopes that helps
Screen turns on for a second then turns off
Your power supply is blown. If you have some repair knowledge then pull it apart and look for caps that have raised or bubbled tops. They need replacing I do this repair all the time. If you don't want the monitor please let me know I will pay for shipping. I repair them for the school.
God luck.
