The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact. Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. No Sound, No Volume Control, Mixer not Found, No Sound device installed…etc etc, This is a generic issue with all Windows OS updates....many of the users are facing this issue....this issue began after an auto update from MS changed many IRQs of Win OS, mainly the Sound and Audio Control system of Windows.
1 - R U facing NO Audio / No Sound issue...?
2 - Is ur Volume Control not responding ?
3 - Is ur Sound and Audio Device in Control Panel Grayed out ?
4 - Do u get a msg "No Active Mixer Devices Installed....when u try to open Volume Ctrl etc etc ?

If ur ans to any one of them is Yes...then u are being spammed by Microsoft....as ur Sound Control IRQ is being frozen by a recent update from Microsoft....
NOTE..THIS…IS…VERY..IMPORTANT...
No file update or any sound driver update can fix it, neither Microsoft is issuing any patch to fix it…or giving any help on this.

Short and quick if the bios can see them but your operating system can't, chances are that either the format is wrong or the disks are not formatted at all.
In windows go to control panel
Administrator tools
computer management
disk management
This will bring up all the hard drives, logical drives and any other type of drive that you have hooked up. Find the drives you are looking for see if the operating system can see them, if it can it will tell you what the format is or even if the disk is formatted. From there you should be able to find your way.

"Ubuntu" is a Linux operating system, not a Windows operating system. It will not run any windows programs or autoplay any windows CD's unless you have an "emulator" or hypervisor installed, which is not by default. Here is a link to the Ubuntu website that you can browse to find out more information on that Operating System - http://www.ubuntu.org  There you can research the running of a Windows emulator called "WINE" (much to detailed to get into here). Or you can purchase a 3rd party hypervisor, such as VMware Workstation, that will run a virtualized copy of a Windows operating system (such as XP) inside Ubuntu.
Long story short - you cannot use your Windows disks in this laptop with Ubuntu operating system installed without a add-on emulator or program.

Hi, this fix was on a website I found & may help..

This problem happens because your version of Outlook Express is set up to use Secure Socket Layer (SSL), which your ISP does not use.
To fix this problem, open Outlook Express, and click:
- Tools
- Accounts
- Then click on your connection and click Properties
- Then click Advanced
- On this screen remove the checks from the boxes This server requires a secure connection for both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3).
You may have to play with the settings a bit to suit your setup.

Whatever 'Windows Mail' you are using, I guess you have checked all the config. options? I mean if you are using Outlook Express, then go into 'Tools' then select accounts, then select your isp's account details (if they are not there, thats your problem) then click Properties. Under the general tab should be your ISP's mail server details, your user name (below that) & your email address. Next the 'Server' tab.. shud be info relating to your ISP. If you do not use Outlook Express, consider setting it up as a test. Do it manually as per above. If you need further help, let me know. Rgds.

Does it give you a command prompt,example c:/?If so type chkdsc and this will scan the hardrive for boot errors.Let me know.

If you are still having troubles, try this. Click on start> run> type in msconfig> ok> click on the boot.ini tab> make sure the safeboot box is not checked.
