What is RAID? Can this cause video issues? Can the Video problems be ralated to the PSU?

RAID is where you use data in stripes over many disks to improve reliability, one disk can go down and can be replaced without rebuilding machine. RAID is not appropriate for a single disk machine.

BIOS Password Recovery

Restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer

As the computer is booting repeatadly press the F8 key as the computer is booting

If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen.

Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only

Windows Advanced Options MenuPlease select an option:

Safe ModeSafe Mode with NetworkingSafe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot LoggingEnable VGA modeLast Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)Debugging Mode

Start Windows NormallyRebootReturn to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

select safe mode with command prompt

Then type at the C:\> prompt: typeDEBUG and hit Enter. You'll see a dash (-) at the DEBUG prompt. Now type: o 70 2e which will show as -o 70 2e at the DEBUG prompt. Hit Enter. Then type: o 71 ff and hit Enter. Finally type: Q and hit Enter one last time to quit DEBUG back to the C:\> prompt. Now you're ready to reboot your PC, and press the appropriate key or key combo (look it up in your motherboard manual if you don't know it) to access your BIOS Setup.

Youll notice the password is gone.

If this fails try typing

At command prompt type debug you will get a - prompt where you can type the following (<enter> means press enter, not type enter*)A <ENTER>MOV AX,0 <ENTER>MOV AX,CX <ENTER>OUT 70,AL <ENTER>MOV AX,0 <ENTER>OUT 71,AL <ENTER>INC CX <ENTER>CMP CX,100 <ENTER>JB 103 <ENTER>INT 20 <ENTER><ENTER> just hit enter on this lineG <ENTER>Q <ENTER> Basic BIOS password - works 9.9 times out of ten

If this fails you will need to

Select safe mode with networking to download

you could download all of these or just one save them to a usb drive for later use if one fails to remove the password

At some stage you might need to press Ctrl+Enter rather than just Enter if on a Dell Latitude E5410

I formatted a dimension 8100 and I install window 7 32 bits now I can't upgrade my Ethernet or sound drivers

I suspect you already tried the drivers. Dell site only has drivers from 2001. You may have to roll back or purchase new cards. It's the same reason I can't use Win8.http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/Index Choose drivers and downloads..

I need to reset my old Dimension 8100 to factory

Best way is to download Windows disc image from internet, burn it to CD/DVD and make a clean installation with it. What type of windows you need you will find out on that sticker If it is too complex to you then I would suggest to hand your computer to local computer specialist or friend who knows how and what to do.

Dell 8100 Dimension will not find the Hard Drive or CD Rom

If the drives share the same IDE cable, try to replace the cable and make certain it is seated properly on the motherboard. Check for bent pins on either drive and on the motherboard IDE connector. Sometimes pins (especially near either end of the 2 rows of 20 pins) will bend under if they are not lined up with the IDE cable. Also check that nothing changed on the Jumper positions on the drives. They should be set to Master if both drives are single and Master (hard drive) and Slave (CDROM) if they share the same cable.

Hi! My dell-dimension 8100 with

When you boot your computer, spam the F2 key to enter the BIOS setup. Select the Drives/Drive Configuration menu, make sure PATA-0 and PATA-1 are enabled. (or whatever is listed for your physical drive ports, the Dimension 8100 doesn't use SATA so those shouldn't be listed). Save settings and restart. XP should now be able to detect the new hard drive.

I have an older Dell 8100 that is infected, I cannot use it.

It might be really what it says, but chances are you have accidentally started a "fake virus scam" malware, that acts a bit like a virus, but with an added function of luring you into paying for some miraculous anti-virus, that will cure your computer of the multiple "infections" it has allegedly "discovered".
If you can open Internet Explorer, you may try one of the online virus scanners available. If not, the only thing left is to prepare on a clean computer a startup antivirus CD, from which you could boot your computer and run an antivirus program.

Free Online scanners:
http://www.f-secure.com/en_EMEA/security/tools/online-scanner/
http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html

Free boot antivirus products (CD image to burn):
http://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/RescueDisk/
http://dlpro.antivir.com/package/rescue_system/common/en/rescue_system-common-en.iso

Please come back with a testimonial if helped :)

The sound is not working on my Dell Dimension 81

This is a generic issue with all Windows OS updates....many of the users are facing this issue....this issue began after an auto update from MS changed many IRQs of Win OS, mainly the Sound and Audio Control system of Windows.
1 - R U facing NO Audio / No Sound issue...?
2 - Is ur Volume Control not responding ?
3 - Is ur Sound and Audio Device in Control Panel Grayed out ?
4 - Do u get a msg "No Active Mixer Devices Installed....when u try to open Volume Ctrl etc etc ?

If ur ans to any one of them is Yes...then u are being spammed by Microsoft....as ur Sound Control IRQ is being frozen by a recent update from Microsoft....

NOTE..THIS…IS…VERY..IMPORTANT...
No file update or any sound driver update can fix it, neither Microsoft is issuing any patch to fix it…or giving any help on this.
Full solution is available in my website (Support page)...it's quite simple process to fix it, and I am not charging any money, just trying to do some service and help everyone affected by this stupidity from Microsoft.
www.sureshayyar.110mb.com
visit my support page.

all the best...
i am also a victim of this mis-adventure from MS
