Ok, so i logged out

old post JAN 18' , let me guess the shop wants 5 times value just to tell you X is bad. right? GeekSxxxd.? sure it was ok before , all things are really. but not now, but sure you did not buy it broken, that is good clue. first off , all laptops made have this huge battery and all this old are bad and worse shorted so get that battery out first. simple , no? remove it and run on AC power pack for eternity if you want to. I guess this is black screen of Deathh(sic) post. 100% never ever shows text, even doing the long reset with power. the next step on any LT, is to carbon14 date it, (build year) it is very old, 14 years old today. with old old Pentium M processor. all PCs this old have CCLF backlamps. that all died years go. in fact most died, at about 2010 year, ok?> the lamps go dead after only 20,000 hours of use. we throw these PCs away. for 2 reasons. 1: huge labor and cost to replace those lamps. 2: and PC has no street value, at all. $23 used on ebay busted. here is the magic flash light test for all old laptops works on deal lamps from year 2000 to 2010 2010 is LED back lamp born day. power on, the fan must spin, heard and MUST Blow are or the LT will overheat. the use the flashlight like this. to see if you see data there. if yes, bingo, CCLF failure. http://www.pcdied.com/monitors_and_screens/flash-light-trick.html

My wireless and sound does not work after recovering and upgrading to windows 7

Use a driver scanner to download drivers for hardware.. Also use a system utility tool like Reginout to fix windows errors. It might be be due to corrupt registry files.

On a Toshiba satellite A55-S306 running XP. On

Here's the link to model-specific drivers:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp#

Choose Product Support, then Show ALL models (instead of Show Current Models) and you'll be able to get to your particular model. Your Network Adadpter should be an Intel 10/100, or it could be WiFi card, and your modem should be a Toshiba Software Modem. Drivers are all there at Toshiba's site.

1.Go into bios and load defaults (usually hit F1)
2.Go into bios and set the boot sequence as HDD number 1
3.Go into bios and disable network PXE boot if possible.
4.Now retry
5.No success press F12 and choose HDD as boot up
6.Now retry
7.No success then remove the HDD clean the contacts and reseat
8.Now retry
9.No success open the laptop lid locate which part of the laptop the hdd is located and just give the laptop a tap in that corner and abit of a push (with the laptop turned OFF) Ive successfully fixed 2 of my IBM's doing this.
10.Still no success try changing the HDD and reformating a fresh
11.Still no success i would open the laptop up completely remove the motherboard and oven bake your motherboard and 375f for 10 minutes BUT BE WARNED DO A GOOGLE SEARCH BEFORE DOING THIS!. This method can also repair other faults such as GPU faults, Memory faults..ect.

Where is the CMOS battery located?

Unfortunately it is located inside the computer on the motherboard. It looks like one of those small round flat batteries that is used to keep information when the computer is turned off. Im sure you can find the screws under the notebook to open it up.

Good Luck,

kc

Screen is not coming on

If the system seems to boot OK (watch keyboard LEDs and drive light for activity), try to score an external monitor so you can check (via VGA connector) if the video section is working. If it is, then you have either a failed LCD backlight (fluorescent) or the inverter that supplies high voltage to it has died. The latter item is often on a small separate board that can be replaced independently of the main board.
