I have an 80 gb

did you use the same leads to check it on another computer
click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x right click to reinstall drivers or if you can see your usb but its not working ports(com&lpt)right click update driver: sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable, just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems hope this helps

Unmountable boot drive error on 80 gb hitachi

If you receive the “unmountable boot volume” error and have an installation disk, you still may have a chance to save your system.

1. Insert your XP installation disk into an optical drive and boot up your computer.
2. When you see a welcome screen, hit the R key on your keyboard. This will enter you into recovery mode with a DOS prompt.
3. Now type chkdsk /p and hit Enter. This will launch a utility which will check for errors on your hard drive.
4. After the process is done, type fixboot and hit Enter to repair any damaged boot files which may have become corrupted. When asked to say yes or no, type the Y key on your keyboard.
5. Type exit and press the Enter key to reboot your computer.
If all went well, you should now be able to boot back into Windows without a problem!
Good luck!

My Gateway used computer was working and now it

It sounds like your hard drive has failed, IE.. the clicking/tapping sound. You could have the hard drive tested to be sure. You could swap out the hard drive to another machine and try it.

HTS548080M9AT00 hard drive clicks/won't boot

sometimes i find that your registry and drivers can get screwed up. If you have a copy of windows, you might want to try reformatting your hdd and reinstall windows. Other times its caused by lack of virtual memory, if your running vista try popping a flash drive and use readyboost. The only thing about readyboost is that you need windows to boot first.

Hard disk drive not detected

firstly check your cable connections, then log onto your bios setup menu during startup and check whether the Hard drive is detected by your bios, if it is then you can try to format the harddrive using the ntfs system (use the long formatt) if you are using windows xp or later if using any earlier os then formatt with the FAT32 system.
If your HDD is not detected by the bios then try to download bios updates for your motherboard and install thed in windows. is this does not work then its time to get a new HDD. thanks

HELP--- problem with the hd booting and pulling my hair out !!!!!!1

Sounds like you have a boot up password enabled and the only way to disable something like that is to remove the cmos battery from the computer. You could download the service manual from the ibm support website which would tell you how to remove that. After you remove it, wait 15 seconds and replace it. If you're still in warranty i would call up ibm and ask them if they have a software method or a master code to reset that.

Hitachi 50hyt62u H can I add a removable drive as I have a slot in Back for one, and if so where do I get one

You should be able to buy an external USB drive (or thumb drive) at any electronics store. You can connect a USB hard disk drive or USB memory stick to your TV by using the USB inputs of the TV. This feature allows you to play files stored in a USB drive. 2.5" and 3.5" inch (hdd with external power supply) external hard disk drives are supported. IMPORTANT! You should back up your files before making any connections to the TV set in order to avoid any possible data loss. Manufacturer will not be responsible for any file damage or data loss. It is possible that certain types of USB devices (e.g. MP3 Players) or USB hard disk drives/memory sticks may not be compatible with this TV. Quickly plugging and unplugging USB devices, is a very hazardous operation. Do not repeatedly quickly plug and unplug the drive. This may cause physical damage to the USB player and USB device itself. Do not pull out USB module while playing a file. Media Browser Menu You can play photo, music, and movie files stored on a USB disk by connecting it to your TV and using the Media Browser screen. To do this, perform the following: Connect a USB disk to one of the USB inputs located on the side of the TV. You can connect two USB devices to your TV. If both USB devices include music, picture or video files, USB selection OSD will be displayed on the screen. The first USB device connected to the TV will be named as USB Drive1. Select a device by using up or down arrows and press OK

My Hitachi XL500 external hard drive is not showing anywhere on my computer. I also do not believe any power is getting through to my hard drive. Please help

buried in endless spam are you. does it fail on 2nd PC???????????????????????????? but yes, I am the MVP of external HDD< I build my own. Have over 5 here for Backups . lots of causes, for sure bad drive, or missing drivers.. bad HW hardware or BAD software SW. Missing 12vdc 2amp power pack>, lost or using wrong one. when pack above does the HDD spin? usb connected to PC. NO PC stated, NO OS stated, windows/chrome/Linux/android? its at lease 10 years old , see posts back that far. not good old HDD,this old. sold during W7 era. 2009. The drive has 3.5" HDD that needs lots of power (Amps) to start up that big motor inside, and is first thing to learn . 2amps it needs, ok? so if pack is missing it will never startup on any USB port, not rated for 20x standard USB load factors. some laptops only do 0.1amps (100mA) and are useless to startup any hdd motor of any kind. see why here. and see a better extremal solution cheap.! $10 http://www.pcdied.com/external-hdd.html
