Are you using professionally recorded CD's, or are you burning your own CD's?
Professionally recorded CD's are very compatible with most CD players because lasers can read them easier with a transparent, silver-like finish on the bottom of the CD. CD-R's that you buy from the store, for the most part, are a darker blue color, and can be difficult for some lasers to read. Try using CD-R's with a lighter, silver-like finish on the bottom.
First, try using a retail, store bought CD to test if the laser can indeed read the CD. If this works, then the above suggestion may prove to be true.
